Besame cosmetics is a brand that is famous for their vintage based makeup, and today I am going to review their classic color lipstick in the shade “1946 Red Velvet”. So, let’s get started with the details.

A lipstick with a satin, matte finish that delivers full coverage in one coat. Bésame Cosmetics’ Classic Color Lipsticks feature retro-inspired, smooth lip colors that provide a budge-proof finish that stays put, while the angled design offers precise application. Each lasting color is inspired by the shades worn by coveted Hollywood starlets of the ‘20s, ‘30s, ‘40s, and ‘50s, imparting an iconic, satin meets matte lip look. The formula is packed with macadamia oil, vitamin C, chamomile, and aloe to leave lips feeling soft and hydrated.

My Experience with Besame Cosmetics 1946 Red Velvet Lipstick:
Packaging: This lipstick comes packaged in a red and gold cardboard box with all the product and shade details. The lipstick itself comes housed in a gorgeous golden bullet with the brand’s signature chrysanthemum flowers design in red and the shade name is also present at the bottom of the bullet. Since I got the mini lipstick, I didn’t get the outer box and also, the lipstick came with a push up button to push the lipstick forward. Each of these lipsticks is inspired from a particular decade of the Hollywood world, and the year details are also put on the lippie. Usually, lipstick bullets have a single flat end, but this one is chiseled with 2 flat ends, which make it easy to line and fill your lips. It also has a beautiful vanilla fragrance just like MAC lipsticks. Overall, this is one of the most gorgeous packaged lipsticks that I have in my collection.
Shade: The shade “Red Velvet” is a deep, warm true red. All the lipsticks in this line are based on reds and this particular lipstick is one of the prettiest reds in their collection. All their lipsticks are true replicas of lipstick shades from the past and this shade is a true replica of a color from 1946. At the heart of 1940s, the most popular lip color was a more subdued red, which is elegant and perfect for every day. Paired with long curled hair, simple eye makeup and perfectly manicured brows, it embodies the decade completely. This is Besame’s most popular shade of red, due to the fact that it has a neutral undertone, which makes it ideal for all skin tones and excellent for wear in the day and the night.
Formula: The formula of these lipsticks is just awesome. It’s not much creamy or slick as some lipsticks, but it has the right amount of creaminess like a classic lippie. It applies smoothly onto the lips and provides a full pigment with a single stroke. These lipsticks don’t have a matte finish, as there were no matte formulas in the older days; these have a beautiful satin finish. All the lipsticks are enriched with Vitamin E, C, and A, as well as aloe and green tea, which makes the lipstick all the more smooth and good. There is no major feathering, flaking or smearing; this felt light and easy on the lips. Since this is a dark shade, a lip liner is necessary to avoid bleeding around the lips.
Longevity: This product also had impressive wear time; it lasted for almost 6 hours, just like most of the traditional lipsticks. The lipstick faded evenly, instead of from the middle. It is easy to reapply and also leaves a beautiful stain behind at the end of the day.
Overall, this is a beautiful universally flattering red, which is decently comfortable and very opaque.
