Besame has been making luxurious cosmetics inspired by the golden age of the cinema in Los Angeles, California since 2004. They make exceptional products that inspire and define the power of the classic woman. Artfully crafted, Besame cosmetics offers something truly different, nostalgic and glamorous; it is more like a retro modern style makeup brand. I wanted to try their lipsticks for a long time and finally, I purchased some lip products. So, without further rambling, let’s see how the shade “Wild Orchid” from their Classic color range fared for me.

A beautiful deep fuchsia-red with slight shimmer. A semi-matte finish with one coat full coverage. Containing the highest natural pigment content for a smooth, indelible, feather-proof finish. Enriched with squalene, vitamin C and aloe.
Why we made it – This color is a true replica of a color from 1952. Wild Orchid is a high fashion color from the early fifties. Used in fashion ads of the time, it was a color that turned heads more than the usual red lip. As nail polish started to come in different shades other than the standard red, lip colors began to match as well. This is one of the first shades Gabriela reproduced when Besame Cosmetics started. It is a great color to represent the 1950s and we are thrilled to bring it back.

My Experience with Besame Cosmetics 1952 Wild Orchid Lipstick:

Packaging: This lipstick comes packaged in a red and gold cardboard box with all the product and shade details. The lipstick itself comes housed in a gorgeous golden bullet with the brand’s signature chrysanthemum flowers design in red and the shade name is also present at the bottom of the bullet. The packaging is gorgeous and unique. Each of these lipsticks is inspired from a particular decade of the Hollywood world, and the year details are also put on the cardboard box. Usually, lipstick bullets have a single flat end but this one is chiseled with 2 flat ends which make it easy to line and fill your lips. There also has a beautiful vanilla fragrance just like MAC lipsticks. Overall, this lipstick shouts ‘Luxury’ and ‘Vintage’.

Shade: The shade “Wild Orchid” is a cherry fuchsia pink with a hint of red and a mild purple undertone. All the lipsticks in this line are based on reds and this particular lipstick has a subtle shimmer which makes this product all the more special. For me, it’s the best way to describe it. What I found so interesting about Besame is that they research the lipstick color that was in a particular decade or year; in this case, the year is 1952. In this period, the most famous Hollywood stars were Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell, and both of them sported this shade often in their movies. All the lipstick shades in this line are universally flattering which makes it incredible.

Formula: The formula of these lipsticks is ‘Divine’. It’s not as extra creamy or slick as some ranges; it is the right amount of creamy like a classic lippie. It applies smoothly onto the lips and provides a full pigment with a single stroke. These don’t have a matte finish, as there were no matte formulas in the older days; these have a beautiful satin finish. All the lipsticks are enriched with Vitamin E, C, and A, as well as Aloe and Green Tea, which makes the lipstick all the more smooth and good. There is no major feathering, flaking or smearing; this felt light and easy on the lips.

Longevity: This product also had impressive wear time; it lasted for almost 6 hours just like most of the traditional lipsticks. The lipstick faded evenly, instead of from the middle. It is easy to reapply and also leaves a beautiful stain behind at the end of the day.

Overall, this is a special lipstick. I love the retro style and this one has won my heart. It’s a decently comfortable, very opaque, and lush-looking formula and the shimmer adds a lot of zing to this lipstick.
