Besame Cosmetics Brightening Vanilla Face Powder Review

Hello everyone,

This review will be of a product that I picked up during my recent Sephora haul – it’s the Bésame Cosmetics Brightening Vanilla Face Powder.

Besame Cosmetics Brightening Vanilla Face Powder

Product Description:
A face powder that controls redness and brings a subtle warmth to the complexion.

What it does:
Vanilla Brightening Face Powder is a velvety soft powder for all skin types that features a yellow tint that works to control redness. Ideal for light to medium skin tones, it can be worn around the eyes to brighten dark circles, or overall for a velvety soft matte finish. It’s perfect for wearing over foundation or alone, and it is formulated with Vitamin C, squalane, and lecithin to soothe and hydrate skin while leaving a subtle, vanilla fragrance.  It is formulated without parabens.  This product is gluten free and is not tested on animals, and it is formulated for sensitive skin.  Brightening Powders date back to the times of Marie Antoinette, a classic must have in the make-up ritual. These powders are a staple of makeup artists in movie and television studios across the U.S. and Europe.

My Experience with Besame Cosmetics Brightening Vanilla Face Powder:

Packaging:  I really like the packaging.  It is sort of reminiscent of old Hollywood with the tin can and the floral design on it. This product comes with a very nice and soft powder puff. The powder puff sits in a separate compartment which I highly appreciate as usually puffs which sit on the product irk me out due to the unhygienic factor.

I usually tap some product in the cap and use a brush (I love using my Wayne Goss Brush No. 2 for this) to do a light dusting on it. I feel the sponge packs on too much product for my liking.

Texture and Look on Skin:  This powder is not as finely milled as some of the powders I have used in the past, but it indeed feels very smooth and soft, and blends effortlessly into the skin. Whenever you apply, it never seems like a powder sitting on the top of your skin and never looks cakey.  I did not find that this powder accentuates any fine line or pores on my skin.  The finish it gives is true to its claim of imparting a soft and velvety matte look.

Shade and Staying Power:  This powder from Besame Cosmetics comes in a few different shades. The shade “Vanilla,” which is the one that I own is a permanent shade from the line. This shade has a yellow tint to it and it is best suited for those with light skin (as an all-over face powder) to medium skin tones (as a highlighting/brightening powder). This powder indeed brightens up the area to which it is applied. You could say the look it imparts is a very subtle highlight without any shimmer. I love using this shade to set my under eye concealer and it does the job fabulously. The darkness under my eyes is less prominent.  My eyes are the oiliest on my face and whenever I wear makeup, this area is the first to get shiny. When I use this power, it takes away any shine on my skin immediately and also keeps the area shine free all day which is about 7-8 hours for me. I never feel like I need to do a touchup.

I do not like using this powder to set my full face of makeup as it is a highlighting powder and one shade lighter than my skin tone (MAC NW23) and using this all over my face makes me look unnaturally fair.  Due to the yellow tinge in this powder, I did find that this cancels out any redness on my skin. This powder is also perfect to use in the recently popular technique of Baking/Cooking your makeup.

Fragrance:  This powder has the most amazing and delicious scent of vanilla. It smells literally like a vanilla cake. It’s mouthwatering and I crave for a cake whenever I use this: P.

I have heard people say that this product is a dupe for the popular Ben Nye Banana Powder (which Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist loves) and vice versa since I do not own the latter I cannot support this but it is something you can look into.

Besame Cosmetics Brightening Vanilla Face Powder

Overall, I am very impressed with this product and I do recommend this.

Pros of Besame Cosmetics Brightening Vanilla Face Powder:

  • Beautiful packaging.
  • Smooth and silky powder.
  • Does not feel cakey on the skin.
  • Does not accentuate fine lines, pores or dryness on the skin provided I apply it moderately.
  • Does provide a brightening effect.
  • The yellow tint helps cancel out redness.
  • Takes away shine and keeps it away all day.
  • Smells delicious like a vanilla cake.

Cons of Besame Cosmetics Brightening Vanilla Face Powder:

  • This shade might not suit all skin tones. This shade is only suitable for light to light medium skin tones. If you have a deeper complexion, this will look ashy on you.
