Benzoyl Peroxide-Based Products for Acne-Prone Skin

If you checked out the salicylic acid based product list yesterday, here I am with another major ingredient used to treat acne, that is Benzoyl peroxide, here is what you should know about it for starters, from Wikipedia:

“Benzoyl peroxide works as a peeling agent. It increases skin turnover, clearing pores and reducing the bacterial count (specifically P. acnes) as well as acting directly as an antimicrobial.[5] It may be combined with salicylic acid, sulfur, erythromycin or clindamycin (antibiotics), and adapalene (a synthetic retinoid). Two common combination drugs include benzoyl peroxide/clindamycin and adapalene/benzoyl peroxide, a unique formulation considering most retinoids are deactivated by peroxides.” proactiv-acne-solution (1) Benzoyl peroxide is most effective in getting rid of the dirt accumulated to clear up the pores. This antibacterial chemical could be used directly on the skin or can be found in various moisturizers, gels and cleansers. However I suggest the latter because this product alone is so strong that it might lead to irritation of the skin causing redness and dryness particularly if you have a sensitive skin. If possible try getting samples first so that you can test them & see how it reacts on your skin.

  3. Benzol Peroxide is very effective with acne but researchers still don’l know why it works. Also it is important to mention benzol peroxide is ban throughout Europe because it is considered a carcinogenic and hence it’s not safe.
