Best Foundation for Large Pores / Acne Scars – Ask IMBB

Ayesha Asks:

I’ve just gotten into beauty and make up in the past year, learning from you tube, and playing with products.

With me, I had bad acne in my teens and it’s just reduced well stopped in the last year(I’m 26 now). I have deep red scarring/pits on my cheeks, I’ve been going to a dermatologist and am using the Loreal microdermabrasion kit, when I’ve saved up enough (mulah) I’ll go in for the professional microdermabrasion treatment. I always feel confident wearing foundation, recently I’ve been using Revlon’s New Complexion which I really like texture and feel wise. It doesn’t really cover my scars so much, so I was wondering if you had any suggestions, a good foundation routine for me and products? I thought maybe I should get the Mac studio finish concealer(after reading the reviews from your blog) to wear below my foundation to cover the scars? I also don’t want to look plasticy or overdo it.

I don’t mind if you place my query in your Question section as it might help others with my problem.

  1. Hi Aayesha,

There are a few things that I would like to suggest L

    1. Invest in a good face primer and especially that says “pore minimiser ” I only know of high end brands that make such products – 1. YSL : http://www.yslbeautyus.com/Top-Secrets-Pore-Refining-Skincare-Brush/455YSL,default,pd.html

    Clarins Insta Smooth : http://sg.clarins.com/beauty-product/make-up/complexion/complexion-specifics/instant-smooth-perfecting-touch/P0501/C050105002/

Clarins also has a pore minimizing serum that you can use as a part of your skin care regime.

    Clarins : http://sg.clarins.com/beauty-product/face/oil-control/essences-serums/pore-minimizing-serum/C011001001/

One of my friend uses it and she is happy with it. but skin care depends from person to person so may be ask for samples.

    2. Go for matte foundations. Dont go for glowy dewy foundations because they have illuminating particles in these kind of foundations and that would only accentuate your pores.

    3. MAC Studio finish concealer is a good one and it would cover up just anything. Just choose the right shade. If you are picking it up for under eyes , go for NW shade and for blemishes ec , go for the same shade as your foundation.

Follow up a strict cleansing, toning moisturising routine. If you can buy Clinique toner. It is good for oily skin and really sucks out the dirt etc for your skin.

    Regarding foundations :

MAC Studio Fix liquid is coming to my mind right now. Revlon Colorstay….(please read the review and check whether it is matte or not)

        1. Nooo Rati – not Studiofinish – as in its ok but Studio Tech is a bazillion times better, you;ve seen my pics na – smooth even finish – but I have terrible icepick acne scars etc and they dont show at all – Studio Tech is like my miracle foundation and it doubles as concealer to give you flawless look πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  2. I also have large pores with oily combination skin. I use Clinique pore minimizer Instant perfector as primer.
Even Clarins instant smooth perfecting touch is really nice product as Rati mentioned above. πŸ™‚

    For foundation-MAC studio tech foundation.
Cheaper alternative- Revlon colorstay liquid foundation (It has matte finish).

For scars go for MAC studio finish concealer…its best for scars and blemishes.

  3. i have the same problem as well!
    i use mufe HD primer!
But if your looking for an affordable primer, try loreal studio secrets base, its really great in filling in pores.
And for foundation,Mac pro longwear foundation has really great coverage and i would say studio sculpt because its easier to work with imo!
    ^_^

  4. Hi Rati….MAC studio finish concealor is good…and hey professional microdermabrasion doenot cost a bomb…it costs 1000 Rs if you get it done from your derma…if you getting it from a high end parlour then it will cost you 2K-3K…

  5. I have acne scars and I used to use MAC Studio Finish concealer with Studio Fix Liquid but I was recently told that the concealer tries to give you a dewy finish while Studio Fix gives you a matte finish – so they don’t exactly go well together and will melt a bit eventually. A better option is MAC’s Pro Longwear concealer – I’ve been using that (I have combination skin) and it lasts much longer. So if you are looking for something that will last for a full day at work, etc… then Pro Longwear is better. The Pro Longwear foundation is very nice too but they don’t sell it in my shade.

  6. first of all…..go for professional microdermabrasion…that would be good. n side by side keep using home remedies

according to me , the loreal kit is useless and just makes skin soft…neways 10% of glycolic acid is way too less for my scars!
i just use a oriflame concelear n bourjous foundation! n all dat helps but gives me medium coverage
    !
for more u shud splurge on MAC!
    hope it helped! πŸ™‚

  7. Head down to MAC – try out the range of the products – have a chat with the MUA and find the products that suit you. Also as suggested above – do invest in a good primer :-))

My own recco is the Studio Tech – theres a review here on IMBB. It does a great job of coverig my scars, I used to use Studio Fix Fluid but I personally prefer Studio tech – but head down and see what suits you the most, since MAC will let you try them all out on your face – you can see first hand whats working and what isnt πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  8. Thanks so much everyone! :hugleft: :-*
Will definitely look into the products suggested and see which would be best for me πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ .
Rati- This site is the best ever!So much great info. πŸ™‚
