Many of us might have made that transition from liquid liners to gel eyeliners now. I prefer gel eyeliners to liquid ones. First, they smudge less than kohl and liquid eyeliners and secondly, I get a better control with a slant brush in hand, making thick or thin lines as I want. I am listing down a few gel eyeliners which have proved their worth and are fast becoming everyone’s favourite, check these out:
Top Gel Eyeliners Available in India
1. Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner (Black):
Price: Rs. 450.
This is my favourite gel liner. I have lost count of how many I have bought and gifted to others. You can get a defined or a dramatic look with this liner. The brush provided is a very good one. The gel is creamy, glides on smooth, does not tug the eyelids. Though the colour is not that intense black, it does not smudge easily and stays put for long hours.
2. L’Oreal 24H Super Liner Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Brown:
Price: Rs. 825
Soft, buttery texture and glides on the eyelids like a dream, highly pigmented, stays on for long hours, does not smudge or fade away, waterproof, glossy finish, no shimmer or glitter, perfect for office wear, does not irritate the eyes, can be used on the waterline, comes with a brush like Maybelline gel eyeliner, what more do you need from an eyeliner! Though a little expensive at Rs. 825, its completely worth the price. More photos and swatches of this liner here.
3. Make Your Own Gel Eyeliner- Do It Yourself:
If you do not want to invest in expensive gel eyeliner, you can make one for yourself at home. You just need to buy a good-quality liner brush or slanted brush to apply the gel liner. Here’s the complete procedure on how to make gel liner at home with easily available ingredients.
4. Tips & Toes Gel Eyeliner:
Price: Rs. 210
This gel liner gives intense black colour, has good staying power, does not smudge easily, comes with a good applicator.
5. Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Sapphire:
This is a jewel-toned blue shade and like its other version, its long lasting, smudgeproof, comes with a good brush. Also, its available in many gorgeous shades.
6. Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel EyeLiner Caviar Ink:
Price: Rs. 1000 approximately.
Winner of many beauty awards including the Elle Magazines Top 5 in 2009, the shade caviar ink is neither super black nor it is not brown, it neither looks too soft nor too harsh. The formula is creamy and it glides on your lids like a dream. The eyeliner stays on until you remove, its smudge proof, water proof and stays all day long. After applying, you can smudge it a little to create a soft smudged effect or just draw a fine line with it. The eyeliner doesn’t dry too fast in the pot. The eyeliner is nicely pigmented. It comes out with an oil based cleanser easily without tugging your pulling your eye lids.
7. Inglot Matte Gel Eye Liner:
Price: Rs. 680
Available in 20 shades, its highly pigmented. The shade No. 77 is the blackest black. Its very creamy and glides easily on the eyes. Its also matte. Its waterproof, smudgeproof, and does not feather, stays all day long on the eyes. It comes off easily from the eyes with a good eye makeup remover. This gel liner does not come along with a brush, you would have to invest in a good quality brush.
8. Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue Gel Eyeliner:
Price: 6 pounds.
Its a matte, dark brown gel eyeliner. It feels like silk. It glides and sets nicely. This gel liner is waterproof, smudgeproof, and dries off fast. It comes along with a brush.

The packaging is a unique one, the brush is attached to the cap itself. Plum prune is a gorgeous purple colour with silver glitter. The texture of the eyeliner is very soft and pretty, glides on very easily and with the brush, you can make think or thick lines. This liner does not smudge easily and is waterproof, the eyeliner does not crease.

MAC has 6 fluidline gel liners from the permanent collection. Ultra-smooth, Fluidline’s gel formula provides the precision of a liquid liner with a silkier, softer finish. Goes on “foolproof” with a brush in an easy dip-and-stroke action. Long-wearing. Smudge-proof. Lines up in a rich array of colours and finishes. Brush sold separately.
15. Inglot AMC Gel Eyeliner – 74:

The shade 74 is an eggplant shade. It would suit most of the skin tones. It does not contain any shimmer and is totally matte. The texture is smooth and glides pretty easily. The pigmentation is good. The staying power is also decent. It stayed on my oily lids for a good 6 hours without fading or flaking.

Newbie to gel liners 🙂 bought the maybelline one based on recommendations here but realised too late that its not meant for waterline *waaa* can someone pls let me know if inglot is safe for waterline or any other options?
I bought Maybelline gel liner 1.5 years back and still have it, as i hate to use it. Its so damn dry that i find it difficult to apply. And if your stroke goes wrong while applying, it is even harder to correct it *pan*
Don’t think will ever use gel liner ever again. I am presently using lakme liquid liner..ahh!! so much easier to apply and quick as well.
Hi jomol di.. awesome post.
I really want to buy a gel eyeliner.. and this post is great for beginners like me.
But can you please tell me which of all these can be used on the waterline..? *shy*
