Did you know that your curly hair needs extra attention, a lot more than a woman with straight or wavy hair? You also need different products if you want to grow your hair out with extra care. In this post, I will tell you how! Just keep on reading.
Use Targeted Products
As I mentioned above, use hair products that are specially meant for curly hair. Do not just pick up any random product as it will do you more harm than good. Try and test different products and stick to those which work best for your hair.
This is a no-brainer and is applicable to all hair types. If you want to grow out your hair then say no to heat or any heat styling products. Heat actually damages your curls and continuous straightening over time will make your curls lose their definition.
Trim Your Split Ends
This is very important if you are looking forward to growing out your hair. Trim your split ends, otherwise, they’ll only continue to keep splitting up the hair strands, which obviously hinders the process of getting longer mane. Also, shampoos, conditioners or hair treatments won’t help with split end issues as claimed by advertisers and only trimming would help.
Wash Less Often
Curly hair tends to get drier with too much washing. So wash your hair not more than twice a week with a gentle hydrating shampoo. This allows the natural oils from the scalp to work their way through hair. You can go for a dry shampoo if your scalp feels oily.
Detangle Your Hair Wide Tooth Combs or Your Fingers
Any other kind of comb will make your curly hair frizzy and your curls will also lose their definition over time. So go for wide toothed combs or just your fingers to detangle your hair. It will also help with the breakage issue and would eventually help your hair to grow out.
Protect Your Hair at Night
Invest in satin or silk pillowcases because they cause less frizz and breakage than cotton pillowcases. These pillowcases are also good if you face acne issues.
This one is also applicable for all hair types. Your hair is made up of what you put in your body. So include loads of fresh fruits and veggies in your diet to speed up the hair growth process.
Use Protective Hair Styling
Protective hair styling refers to hairstyles free of heat and involves tucking the ends of your hair away to prevent it from damage. This trick promotes hair growth and damage-free hair. So braiding your hair at night before sleeping will do wonders for your curly hair.
Yes, vitamins do help if you are looking to accelerate the hair growth process. So, I suggest you take hair supplements but only after a consultation from your doctor as every body type is different and a little consultation never hurts.
Keep Your Hair Moisturised
Curly hair tends to get dry and dry hair is more prone to breakage which hinders the process of getting long hair. So keep your hair moisturized at all times. Use a leave-in conditioner to moisturize your hair and to keep frizz at bay.
