1. Planks: Planks have long been touted as an overall body exercise. However, it is also considered to be one of the best routines for getting abs. The key to the perfect plank is posture. The back should be perfectly aligned as if one were standing straight. Start by lying flat on the ground on the stomach. Prop yourself up on your forearms. The elbows must be aligned beneath the shoulders. Increase the time in this position by a few seconds every time.
2. Hollow Extension to Cannonball: Assume a cannonball position by sitting on the ground with the arms wrapped around folded knees touching the chest. Keep the feet off the ground in a suspended manner. Then extend the whole body as if lying down, but do not rest the legs on the floor. Only the lower back should additionally touch the ground during extension. Hold this pose for five seconds, and then do the cannonball again. Repeat this whole procedure in increasing number of reps.
3. Dumbbell Side Bend: Take a medium weight dumbbell in one hand. Hold it at your side. Keeping the back straight and core tight bend the waist towards the side that has the weight. Hold for a couple seconds and return to upright position. Do around 20 reps each side.
