BioSilk Silk Therapy Serum – Review

BioSilk Silk Therapy Serum – Review

Hey Guys,

I was surprised to find that no one had reviewed BioSilk Silk Therapy serum on IMBB yet. BioSilk is one of the top hair serums recommended by hair stylists and is equally popular among the masses. Why? Well, you’d have to read this review to find that out!

Product Background and Description

The serum is manufactured and marketed by Farouk Systems, the owner of other popular hair brands like SunGlitz and CHI (of the hair iron and products fame). It is described as “the original weightless, leave-in silk replenishing and reconstructing treatment to repair, smooth and protect all hair types.” The silk infused serum keeps one’s “strands silky smooth and strengthens, repairs, and revitalizes [the hair]. Through innovative technology, BioSilk protects your hair against heat, cold and humidity. It is suitable for all hair types and promises incredible shine with every use.

My Experience with BioSilk Silk Therapy Serum:

The best advice I got for hair care went something like this, “treat your hair just as carefully as the finest and most delicate silk.” This basically entails limiting the use of heat, alcohol- laden products and harsh shampoos. Our hair is pretty fragile and needs to be treated with care, that part is true, but on most days my hair doesn’t feel like silk, nor do I treat it like silk. However, using this serum makes it feel pretty darn close to silk.

I have been using BioSilk on and off for years now. BioSilk’s texture is just like any other serum; it is light, easy to apply on to the hair and a teeny tiny drop is good enough for the whole hair. I once used a little too much by mistake (it was about one teaspoon full) and my hair looked like I had oiled it! So, lesson is that less is definitely more with this product!

On me, it works best when I use heat to style my hair. It literally transforms hair from coarse and frizzy to smooth and silky. When I don’t have time to blow dry or flat iron, I put some of this on towel dried hair and tie my hair in a loose braid or put it in a bun. The result: just in a couple of hours, smooth and silky waves. This product is a compliment magnet, you can expect everyone to “ooh-ah” over your hair because the results are pretty amazing!

As much as I love the results BioSilk gives me, I don’t use it every day. It makes my hair oily really quickly; my hair is often flat the next day. This works best for special occasions, when you really want that silky, shiny, shampoo-ad type hair! Because it’s loaded with silicones and alcohol, I would not recommend it for everyday use. I haven’t experienced it, but these ingredients are known to make hair dry and brittle over time. If you do get the opportunity to try it out, perhaps, your experience will be different. As for me, just as a preventative measure, I restrict myself from using this more than twice a week.

Pros of BioSilk Silk Therapy Serum:

  •  Makes hair really feel like silk. You get immediate, impressive results.
  •  Little bit goes a long way. The bottle is tiny, but it lasts a really long time.
  •  Controls frizz. Works all day and prevents frizzies even in humid climate.
  •  Smells really good. It smells pretty strong at first, but mellows down to a pleasant fragrance once on the hair.
  •  Works even if you just air dry your hair. You can skip the hot tools and still get great results.

Cons of BioSilk Silk Therapy Serum:

  • Cones, cones, cones. The silicone in this can do a lot of damage in the long run!
  • For me, my hair goes flat the next day.

  1. I really don’t mind the cons….I want the silky hair….:P and also the curvy figure the bottle has 😛 Thanks for reviewing this product Devie 🙂

  2. Nowadays i am treating my hair with less chemical products.. and i can see the difference..
Agree with you, silicone based serums are good for that day alone, and the next day hair looks thin 🙁

    Loved reading your review 🙂

  3. I am not a person who changes the hair products that often….but recently i bougt Aloe Vera & Maracuja Soothing Hair and it has been four weeks now….and I’m glad I tried it out. Amazing really!

    1. I’ve been wanting to try maracuja oil products for so long, but they’re so overpriced here! I’ll try and get my hands on some from India 😛

      1. yes n cones protect hair frm styling n sun rays, pollutants n dust.it fills up pores in the cuticle n forms invisible layer on hair strands n prevents thm frm breaking due to friction n tangling.if u mk it a point to apply a serum before ur hair is exposed to the sun…. u will get virtually no split ends…(frm experience)… 🙂
even if u go cone-free on ur shampoo n condish dnt forget tht serum! (sorry i hogged ur space devie but cones r not evil 😛 )

        1. Agree they’re not all evil. 🙂 It seems even within the beauty industry the jury is still out on whether they’re all good or all bad (people often choose polarizing positions :P) It’s true, the ‘cones work by filling up the cuticle and forming a hydrophobic layer over the hair shaft, but that’s also the source of damage over time. They block moisture and lead the hair to dry out over time. They’re also a pain to wash out, and if you want them completely out, you often have to use harsh shampoos. In that way, cones are analogous to mineral oil, imho 😛
I love silicone based conditioners and serums, don’t get me wrong, they never cause breakage when I blow dry my hair! And make it look really good. But, just as a precaution, I try to supplement their use with natural oils 😉

          1. ya devie ur right.. i use no cone, no sulphate products but serum.. is absltly necessary to protect against heat n pollution.any sls shampoo cheap one, will wash off cones.hair fiber is dead, its surface area is less so thr is a limit to “buildup”.also depends on layering products.. nobody uses a serum on scalp anyway…

  4. I have heard so much about this! Wish we could get it here. I am using the ‘it’s a miracle’ leave in condi and it works like a charm on dry frizzy hair, you can give it a try 🙂
I love the pics and the review!

  5. I never applied these things on hair.. lazy me.. 😛 bt ur review is encouraging me to think about my hairs.. 🙂 I wud love to have it!! Loved d way u clicked pics devie.. 🙂
