Biotique Basil and Red Sandalwood Body Talc Review

BIOTIQUE is synonymous with serious skin and hair care developed from time-tested Ayurveda. All BIOTIQ

Name of the Product: Biotique Botanical Extracts Basil and Red Sandalwood Body Talc (Bio Basil)
Cost: Rs. 135 for 180g

Shelf Life: 3 years
Product Claim: “Fine superior grade talc that gives a smooth cooling effect to skin after bathing. Contains extracts of Margosa, Basil and Rakta chandan. Provides day long protection from perspiration and bad odor.”
Review: The talc comes in a white bottle with a green cap. The bottle is of the standard Biotique style, with a picture of basil leaves on it, below the ‘Ayurvedic Recipe’ writing. There is also a picture of basil leaves on the cap.

The cap is of a screw type. Though this is slightly inconvenient to use as compared to other standard talc packs, it is great for travel as it is completely leak proof. Also, instead of the usual perforations seen on packs of other brands, there is single large circular opening for the talc. This makes it difficult to dispense very small amounts.

Directions of use are to apply an appropriate amount to the skin and to smooth gently.
The product itself is of a fine consistency and has a slightly reddish tinge due to the Rakta Chandan (Red Sandalwood). The scent of Rakta Chandan is also quite discernible and could be a put off for some.

The talc is absorbed into the skin fairly well but leaves a faint whitish cast behind, which though present is not very obvious. The scent lingers on the skin for a while.

The product does cause a smoothening effect on the skin, though I didn’t experience any cooling effect to speak of. As for controlling perspiration, I didn’t find it very effective.

Ingredients:
• Melia Azadirachta Ext. (Neem Chhal Kwath) – 5%
• Rubia Cordifolia (Manjistha) – 2%
• Pterocarpus Santaluins (Rakt Chandan) – 1%
• Yashad Bhasma – 1.5%
• Shankh Bhasma – 1%
• Santalum Album Oil (Peet Chandan Tail) – 1%
• Zea Mays (Makka) – 2%
• Ocimum Sanctum (Tulsi Panchang Powder) – 1.5%
• Singe Jerahata

Biotique claims that this is an Ayurvedic Medicine and not a cosmetic product as it contains therapeutic properties.
Red Sandalwood is generally used in Ayurvedic Medicine as an antiseptic, wound healing agent, and as an anti acne treatment.
In Siddha medicine, Basil is used for treating pimples on the face. It is also used in skin ointments for stress-induced skin complaints.

1. Long Shelf Life

Cons of Biotique Botanical Extracts Basil and Red Sandalwood Body Talc:

1. Screw top cap makes it a little inconvenient to use
2. Single large hole perforation makes dispensing of small amounts difficult

Verdict: The difficulty in dispensing the talc and the scent of the Red Sandalwood were my pet peeves with this product. I also didn’t find the claims of cooling and preventing of perspiration to be true. All in all, I wouldn’t buy this product again as there are several other talc brands out there that offer all the benefits mentioned in the product claim above.

  1. I used to love sandalwood fragrance once upon a time but over a period of time I have kinda shifted away from the fragrance.I am not a huge fan of biotique either so guess this would be a skip. :yikes:

  2. as someone who uses this powder, i feel it is a good powder not so much for regular use, but for skin problems, prickly heat, i use it for smelly feet problem, for my armpits when i want no infections and my waxed hair is growing back on. it is more a treatment for skin infections , not so much of a talc.
