Hello gorgeous gals,
I have been so busy doing skincare and eyeshadow reviews that I feel I have neglected lip products totally! Today’s review is on Bite Beauty’s Matte Lip Crayon. I’ve been using these lip crayons for some time now. It’s just recently during a conversation with my friend that I realized that I hadn’t reviewed these on IMBB. So, here goes…
Product Description:What it is: A collection of lip crayons in timeless matte shades that provide superior hydration. Bite Beauty’s latest breakthrough formula boasts a collection of beautiful nudes, striking reds, and deep burgundies with a matte yet moist texture. The secret is the moisture-locking power of orange peel wax along with the antioxidant properties of resveratrol. Each gorgeous shade is water-resistant and long wearing. It is formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. Beauty tip: Use a lip primer to create an even tone and prep lips for lasting lipstick hold.
My Experience with Bite Beauty Fraise Matte Creme Lip Crayon:
Packaging: Bite Beauty’s packaging is frustrating to say the least – it’s these black crayons made of good quality plastic. It’s a roll up type of product, so no need to sharpen it. So, why is it frustrating? The lip crayons are all black! There is NO COLOUR indicator! Well, you can always read the shade name at the bottom, right? Yes, you can. However, considering the size of the crayon and the font size of the shade name – you really really have to squint to be able to read the shade name. The funny thing is that you can open the cap and find the upper part of the crayon color-coded to the colour of the lip crayon, but one can’t be expected to keep checking shade by opening each lipstick! It’s just plain stupid!! And if the Company could do the colour coding there, why not somewhere else of the crayon to make our life easy!!!!
Shade: The shade “Fraise” is described as a “jewel red.” It’s a stunning cool-toned medium red. It is absolutely gorgeous and lifts the face instantly. I wore a red after ages when I was trying this on, to take pics, and started wondering why I haven’t been wearing red more often!! I think it’s the kind of red which can be carried off by anyone. It’s quite similar in tone to MAC Ruby Woo, but obviously with a way less drying texture.
Texture: First things first – this isn’t a matte lipstick! No! Not by any stretch of imagination! I think brands have started using the word “matte” extremely loosely. Yes, the texture of matte lipsticks have changed over the years – they don’t need to be drying, they don’t need to suck all life out of your lips, they have become comfortable to wear – perfect examples of these are the Kat Von D everlasting Liquid lipsticks, Estee Lauder Envy matte Lipsticks, Urban Decay Revolution Mattes, but these….these aren’t mattes! They are definitely satin! End of discussion!
The texture is lightweight, slightly creamy and glides easily on the lips. It does not settle into any fine lines. On the contrary, I feel they make the lips look quite nice and plump. It is hydrating and very comfortable to wear. They do transfer onto cups, straws, etc.
Because of the creaminess in the texture – they are easy to re-apply. There is no flakiness to the re-application
Pigmentation: Love the pigmentation of this lip crayon – just fantastic. It is richly pigmented, gives full coverage in a single stroke. I sometimes like to apply this and then blot it off after a minute or so. This results in a deeply pigmented stain, which too looks absolutely fab!
Lasting Power: This one gives decent wear. You get about 7-7.5 hours of wear, depending on what you have been eating/drinking. And it does leave a stain behind, so even when it has disappeared from the inner portion of your lip, it isn’t too obvious!
Ingredients: For anyone who is new to this brand – the major USP of Bite Beauty is that they use “food-grade ingredients” for theirlip products. So, yes, their lipsticks are extremely safe, even if you eat/drink with these on. To clarify, some people get too grossed out about eating/drinking while wearing a lip product. So they wipe off before meals and re-apply! Yes, such people do exist!
Fragrance: They have a sickly sweet, kind of herbal smell – don’t really like it, but it does dissipate quickly, so I guess I can live with it!
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Bite Beauty Fraise Matte Creme Lip Crayon:
- Beautiful bright medium red shade.
- Easy to apply from the crayon.
- Twist-up packaging.
- Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips.
- Feels hydrating.
- The color hugs the lips nicely – no feathering or bleeding.
- Vanilla fragrance.
- Food-grade ingredients.
- Decent wear time.
- Extremely flattering shade.
Cons of Bite Beauty Fraise Matte Creme Lip Crayon:
- You can’t sell a product saying it is matte when it just is not!!
- The Company claims it’s water resistant – Nope!!
- Thoughtless packaging – there is just no other way of putting it!
- Fragrance is off putting.
Overall, I think this is a good product and would definitely have scored better with me if they had been bought without the expectation of them being matte. I love the finish of these lip crayons and went out and bought more, so I really do like the product and would recommend to a friend. Let’s just sell them as satin! Why say matte!?
