Hello gorgeous gals,
After reviewing the Bite Beauty Matte Lip crayons in shade Fraise and Truffle, today I have another bold shade from the line; this one is called Red Velvet. So, let us get on with the review without wasting time.
Price: USD 24
What it is:
A collection of lip crayons in timeless matte shades that provide superior hydration.
What it does:
Bite Beauty’s latest breakthrough formula boasts a collection of beautiful nudes, striking reds, and deep burgundies with a matte yet moist texture. The secret is the moisture-locking power of orange peel wax along with the antioxidant properties of resveratrol. Each gorgeous shade is water-resistant and long wearing.
What it is formulated WITHOUT:
Use a lip primer to create an even tone and prep lips for lasting lipstick hold.
The Bite Beauty’s packaging is functionally good. It’s a good quality plastic with a retractable mechanism, so no time spent on sharpening. Honestly, I don’t mind sharpening pencils anymore as I feel it keeps the product fresher and does not let it dry out too quickly. However, considering how creamy these lip pencils are, I don’t think drying out is really a concern here. The cap fits in with a click – so it isn’t likely to open up in your bag! Thank God!
If you have read the previous reviews, you know how irritated I am with the packaging of these crayons from the identification perspective. There is no colour coding on the outside of the crayon and the font size is way too small, making it frustrating to pick the right colour. The funny thing is that you can open the cap and find the upper part of the crayon color-coded to the colour of the lip crayon but one can’t be expected to keep checking shade by opening each lipstick. It’s just plain stupid!! And if the Company could do the colour coding there – why not somewhere else on the crayon to make our life easy?
My Experience with Bite Beauty Red Velvet Matte Creme Lip Crayon:
The Color: The shade Red Velvet is a stunning deep red which is just too gorgeous for words. It’s not so deep that it becomes vampy, but it isn’t bright like Fraise either. This is more of an evening or an event red – not the let’s-go-out-to-the mall red. However, having said that, it is extremely easy to convert it into a more day time shade – just blot it post a minute of application. I have shared a pic of the same too. It stains so deeply and quickly that a minute after application, you can blot out the entire product. You will be left behind with this lovely pinkish red shade which doesn’t bleed, transfer or attract too much attention. This is a great way for someone to wear reds if they are new to it.
The shade will work across all spectrums of skin tone. However, I feel it will be doubly gorgeous on deeper skin tones.
Texture: And my rant begins! Promise, i’ll try to keep it short. This isn’t a matte lipstick. No, it isn’t! No! It really isn’t! It’s very clearly a satin finish – there is no ambiguity in that – except probably in the minds of the manufacturing team or the marketing team of Bite Beauty! End of discussion!
The texture is lightweight, slightly creamy and glides on easily on the lips. There is no tug or pull. It does not settle into any fine lines. On the contrary, it actually make the lips look quite nice and plump. It is hydrating and very comfortable to wear. But it does transfer onto cups, straws, etc. The easy way out for this is to blot the product – but yes, you do lose the intensity of the shade post blotting.
Because of the creaminess in the texture – they are easy to reapply. There is no flakiness post re-application.
Pigmentation: Love the pigmentation on these – just fantastic. They are richly pigmented, full coverage in a single stroke. As you can see in the pic, I have blotted it post a minute of application and it’s already stained the lips. I know some people don’t like products which stain their lips – well, you have been warned. Personally, I love lipsticks which stain. I feel you get better mileage out of them.
Lasting Power: This one gives decent wear time. You get about 7-7.5 hours of wear, depending on what you have been eating or drinking. And it does leave a stain behind. So even when it has disappeared from the inner portions of your lips, it isn’t too obvious!
Ingredients: For anyone who is new to this brand the major USP of Bite Beauty is that they use Food Grade Ingredients for their lip products. So, yes, their lipsticks are extremely safe, even if you eat or drink with these on.
Fragrance: They have a sickly sweet kind of a herbal smell, and I don’t really like it. But it does dissipate quickly, so I guess I can live with it.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Bite Beauty Red Velvet Matte Creme Lip Crayon:
- Beautiful deep shade
- Easy to apply from the crayon
- Twist up packaging
- Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips
- Feels hydrating
- The colour hugs the lips nicely – no feathering or bleeding
- Food grade ingredients
- Decent wear time
- Extremely flattering shade – would look stunning on deeper tones
Cons of Bite Beauty Red Velvet Matte Creme Lip Crayon:
- You can’t sell a product saying it is matte when it just is not. Seriously!
- Bite Beauty claims it’s water resistant – nope!
- No colour identification on the packaging
- Fragrance is off putting
IMBB Rating: 4/5
Despite my rant regarding the texture of the product, I love the shade. I think it’s just stunning! I can get a decent variety in looks from the same product, depending on whether I wear it in its full intensity or blotted down. Either way, it’s flattering. I definitely recommend.
