Bite Beauty Truffle Matte Creme Lip Crayon Review

Hello gorgeous gals,

After my last review of Bite Beauty’s Matte (*eye roll”) lip crayon in “Fraise,” in this post, I have for you a more vampy, fall-appropriate shade in “Truffle.” Let us see how this one worked for me!

My Experience with Bite Beauty Truffle Matte Creme Lip Crayon:

Packaging:  I have discussed Bite Beauty’s packaging in detail in my previous review – it’s a black crayon made of good quality plastic. The initial look of it makes you feel that it might be the NARS type of rubberised plastic, but it isn’t! Also, the crayon has a retractable mechanism so no need to sharpen it. And yes, the packaging is the most frustrating aspect of the product – Why? The lip crayons are all black! There is NO COLOUR indicator! Well, you can always read the shade name at the bottom, right? Yes, you can. However, considering the size of the crayon and the font size of the shade name, you really really have to squint to be able to read the shade name. The funny thing is that you can open the cap and find the upper part of the crayon color-coded to the shade of the lip crayon (refer pics) but one can’t be expected to keep checking shade by opening each lipstick! It’s just plain stupid!! And if the Company could do the colour coding there, why not somewhere else on the crayon to make our life easy!!!

Color:  The shade “Truffle” is described as a deep brown shade. It’s actually a blackened bruised plummy burgundy shade with a glossy finish. This colour is full-on vampy and will definitely not be everyone’s cup of tea.

When I wore this for the first time, I expected some remarks – within my household. Needless to say, I didn’t have to wait very long! My 6-year-old was quick to comment – “Mumma this colour doesn’t look nice”!! Nothing like kids to keep you grounded and in touch with reality! Anyway, I kind of like the shade, it is deep and different, but no, definitely not for everyone.

Texture:  If you have already seen the swatches, let us address the elephant in the room – yes, it has a glossy finish. Nope, it isn’t matte, not by any stretch of imagination! Like I said in my previous review of the shade “Fraise” from the same line, brands have started to use the word “matte” extremely loosely, but with this shade – it’s like – hell, no!!!  The texture is lightweight, slightly creamy, and glides easily on the lips. It does not settle into any fine lines. On the contrary, I feel they make the lips look quite nice and plump. It is hydrating and very comfortable to wear. It does transfer onto cups, straws, quite heavily actually.

Pigmentation:  The pigmentation on this one is nice but it’s not quite opaque. You can see the translucency on the middle portion of my lower lip and this is exactly the portion from where it disappears first.

Lasting Power:  This one gives decent wear. You get about 6.5-7 hours of wear, depending on what you have been eating/drinking and it does leave a stain behind. However, due to the slight translucency in this shade, it does get a bit patchy and uneven on the middle portion of the lower lip.

Ingredients: For anyone who is new to this brand – the major USP of Bite Beauty is that they use “food-grade ingredients” for their lip products. So yes, their lipsticks are extremely safe – even if you eat/drink with these on.

Fragrance: They have a sickly sweet, kind of herbal smell – don’t really like it. But it does dissipate quickly, so I guess I can live with it.

Pros of Bite Beauty Truffle Matte Creme Lip Crayon:

  • Interesting deep vampy shade.
  • Easy to apply from the crayon.
  • Twist up retractable packaging.
  • Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips.
  • Feels hydrating.
  • The colour hugs the lips nicely – no feathering or bleeding.
  • Vanilla fragrance.
  • Food-grade ingredients.
  • Decent wear time.

Cons of Bite Beauty Truffle Matte Creme Lip Crayon:

  • The product is glossy – sold as a matte!
  • The brand claims it is water resistant – nope!
  • No colour identification on the packaging – extremely irritating.
  • Fragrance is off putting.
  • This particular shade has a bit of translucency.

IMBB Rating:
3.8/5

I do see why Bite Beauty has a fan following. The product definitely has quality. I don’t get why these lip crayons are sold as matte lip crayons when they just aren’t matte. Also, as this shade goes, this may not be for everyone. This is kind of an experimental shade. So, I wouldn’t recommend this one, but they do have a wide variety to choose from, so nothing stops you from picking one which you like.

  1. You made it lul smoking hot KK, I agree I didnt find them impressive either as I tried few shades from this range. 🙂 No wonder bite ebauty has fan following for their quality pdts but this seems decent purchase as compared to their hot sellers lip pencils amuse bouche lipstciks and other ranges 🙂

  2. I found your review on this whilst doing some shopping today, (over a year later, I know, haha,) and just had to say that at least in the photos that color looks FANTASTIC on you! Vampy yes, dramatic yes, but it’s really eye-catching & pretty!

Full disclosure: I am definitely one of those Bite fanatics. Their lipsticks never dry out my lips or feather, both of which tend to be problems for me. That said, I totally agree that these should never have been called “matte” lip crayons. Matte in whose world??? Bite is definitely not alone in this, (MAC & Smashbox, I’m looking at you here,) but it is kind of annoying. I find I’m happiest if I just go into every “matte” purchase nowadays assuming it’ll be a satin finish. 🙂
