Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Base Review

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Base is a pick from my trip to Hong Kong last year. I had never used a primer in the past and even this time I had hopped on to the Bobbi Brown kiosk in the mall only to get a concealer. I had heard that Bobbi Brown concealers are the best and I was dying to get one for myself. So, I went in to try it but sadly, I thought I did not get the right shade and was quite disappointed that I would have to go back without a Bobbi Brown product. That’s when the sales girl suggested me to pick the long wear eye base, I was sceptical in the beginning but, thought there is no harm in trying.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Base was available in three colors – Light, Medium and Medium to Dark. I tried the ‘Medium’ one and was happy to see the results. So, I got this eye primer and then forgot all about it until last month when I decided to start using it. So, let me share how impressed I am with this product.

Product Claims:

The perfect prep for eye makeup — Bobbi’s non-drying, non-greasy Eye Base helps keep any powder eye shadow crease-free and color true. Available in a range of skin tone correct shades, Long-Wear Eye Base neutralizes and diminishes redness and skin discoloration while extending the wear of any eye shadow by 8 hours.(So, if your current shadow has 8 hours of wear, this prolongs your eye shadow for up to 16 hours total.)

My Experience with Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Base:

I generally use it before applying bright powder based eye shadows. I try to dab some product with the applicator on my eyelids and then smooth it out using fingers. Once I feel it is dry (which is about a couple of minutes later) and the eyelids feel smooth, I move on to the next step. This way, it is evenly spread and does not look patchy on the skin. Once dry, it gives a powder finish and also takes care of any discoloration that may exist.

Usage of the applicator alone can waste a lot of product and will not help with a uniform application. So, it is best to use your fingers or at best a blending brush. It might not extend the application by exactly 8 hours but it does increase its life by another few hours.

Secondly, it makes the color of the eye shadow look more vibrant and also ensures the true color shows for a very long time. I guess it works best with the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Eye-shadows. I had only one of those and I think it looked best with this eye primer.

My sister used it a couple of times and said that its biggest disadvantage is not being able to cover the redness on the eyelids. I do not have much redness on my lids, so I did not see any major con of this product in terms of not neutralising it.

The only problem I could say(if at all) is that it does not look great as it is(like if I do not want to use an eye-shadow and just want an even look on my eyelids with minimal makeup).

Nevertheless, I think it is a great product and worth trying. Primer lovers would be able to tell better in terms of comparison with other big brand eye primers.

Pros of Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Base:

• Primes the eyelids very nicely.
• Makes the true color of the eye-shadow stay on the eyelids for a very long time.
• Glides very easily on the lids.
• Subtle colors also look great with this base which otherwise would have been hardly noticeable.

Cons of Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Base:

• The applicator picks up a lot of product.
• Packaging leads to a lot of wastage, also difficult to pick product from the pack when lesser quantity is remaining.
• Does not really live up to its claim of extending the eye shadow life by eight more hours.
• May not work best for oily lids.
