I am cheating a little here! This product does not belong to me, but to my sister. However, when she came over to Chandigarh (where I was on vacation), she so sweetly brought this along for me to review on IMBB! She had just bought the product a week before, along with some other Bobbi Brown goodies and it was still untouched!!! Unlike me, there was no mad rush on her part to quickly try/swatch! I am truly amazed at her patience! Honestly, I felt very guilty using the brand new product!
It is part of Bobbi’s Top 10 – “This really makes eyes pop. Because it is gel-based, it glides on without tugging and you have a minute of play time before it sets. Best of all, it doesn’t smudge and stays in place until you take it off.” This award-winning liner gives you the look of liquid liner with the ease and feel of a gel formula. Long-wearing, water-resistant color glides on and let’s you get it just right before it dries – then stays without a smear or crease.

How To Apply:
Dip tip of Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush (coat both sides of brush head). Wipe off excess before applying to eye. Work quickly as product becomes transfer-resistant once dry. To remove, use Instant Long-Wear Makeup Remover. (You can obviously use whichever brush you are comfortable with – I use the Inglot bent brush or the freebie brush which came with my L’Oreal Superliner and it can be removed with any eye/makeup remover.
$23 in US/ INR 1540 for 3 gm.
It comes in a typical glass pot with a black screw cap – typical of most gel liners, be it L’Oreal, YSL, NARS. It comes packaged in a black cardboard box which has ingredients listed on it. Duty-free outlets stocking Bobbi Brown generally have special offer where you can get the Black Ink and Sepia Ink (a rich brown) gel liners with a free mini ultra fine eyeliner brush!
My Experience with Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner – Violet Ink:
Color: The color “Violet Ink” is a deep, extremely dark violet with very fine shimmer in it. The shimmer is not golden or silver particles, it’s almost a sheen. The color does not give a bright pop of colour. Instead, in keeping with Bobbi’s philosophy, the color is understated and more natural than bright. You could easily wear this to office/work – it would not seem loud. Rather, it would add a bare hint of color and sophistication to your look.
Texture: The texture is hard gel, not too emollient or creamy, like the YSL counterparts. However, it’s easy to get on the brush and on the lids. It glides on smoothly, evenly and in one swipe of the brush, you get full opaque color.
Pigmentation: As I mentioned, the colour is fully opaque in one swipe, you don’t need to go over and over to get color or to make it deep. The color in the pan is the color you get on the lids.
Staying Power: I have super oily lids. However, this liner stays put. I have tested it for 8 hours. There was a little fading of the color towards the end of the 7th hour. However, no smudging, no panda eyes. At the end of the day, I had to remove it with a makeup remover.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner – Violet Ink:
- Lovely color – intense deep violet which catches the light at certain angles.
- Good pigmentation, you don’t need to go over and over with the brush to apply it.
- Gel texture which glides on smoothly, easy to get onto the brush.
- Smudge proof and waterproof, stays put till you decide to take it off!
- Can be used to create thin line or smudged smokey eye effect. You can also use it as a base for violet smokey eyes.
- Does not cause any irritation to sensitive eyes.
- Lives up to its claim of being long wearing.
Cons of Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner – Violet Ink:
- Availability of Bobbi Brown product in India – still restricted to Delhi.
The product may not belong to me, but it sure is lustworthy and goes onto my wishlist along with a couple of other products from Bobbi Brown! I love how natural and wearable Bobbi’s colors are, they never look over the top or loud. There is such elegance about them!
