Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation SPF 15 Review

Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation SPF 15 Review

Product Purchased by IMBB

Hello ladies,

I am not able to write frequently as I used to, so busy these days. I am coming to India on 26th, so purchasing and packing, everything is very hectic here right now.  It has been nearly 1 year since I last went to my home town, Kerala, very excited to meet my parents, relatives and friends. Today, I am here to review a foundation from my favourite brand – Bobbi Brown.  I have been using their lipsticks and eye products, but never got a chance to try out their foundations.  At last, my wish has come true through IMBB. So let’s see how it fared for me.

My Experience with Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation SPF 15:

To begin with, I am currently in a love-hate relationship with this foundation. When I went to the Bobbi Brown store to splurge on this foundation, I was juggling between two shades 3.5 Warm beige and 4 Natural.  I tried both the shades on each side of my face and took a stroll around the mall.  Actually, I went back home and sat in front of the mirror for some time studying both sides of my face. I felt 3.5 looked a tad bit darker than 4, I don’t know why, but I was actually quite satisfied with the shade “4 Natural” and was a great match for my NC 30 skin tone. The next day, I went and purchased it without any qualms, feeling so proud to have owned a Bobbi Brown foundation.

I inaugurated the bottle next day for a small shopping spree, the foundation is housed inside a glossy black outer cover which has all necessary details regarding the product like ingredients, expiry date and shade confirmation. There is also an extra black cardboard protection inside which really helps to avoid any mishaps while travelling. The foundation is filled inside a cute cylindrical glass bottle with a black screw cap, it’s a bit heavy considering the small packing.  The sad part is there is no pump dispenser, you have to pour it into your hands for application which is very very messy. I also don’t find it very travel friendly on its own, so it’s better not to throw away the outer cover which can come very handy while travelling.

The texture of the foundation is a bit on the runny side, there is a certain amount of thickness that does not make it watery.  The first time I used this product, I was really impressed, it looked quite good on my skin. On my first application, I was in a hurry, so just applied it lightly on my face.  It was one of my clear skin days, so it looked perfect on my skin, it did not oxidize and my face was glowing even after 7 to 8 hours of wear.  I had to dab powder on my T-zone after 2 to 3 hours as it was beginning to shine. The next time when I wore it, I really took my time to concentrate on my application part, it was not a clear skin day and I had certain acne marks around my chin area and my skin was a bit dry too. This particular foundation is mainly for dry skin types so I thought it would help me cover up all the dry areas. But unfortunately it messed up my whole face, even the slightest bit of dryness was accentuated.  I tried to layer the foundation but it was going streaky and the foundation was not blending into my skin, it was like I had to sweep out the excess foundation off my face. It did not cover any of my blemishes or acne marks. This should have been named a BB cream or tinted moisturizer and not a foundation.

The foundation cannot be layered so it is not buildable and does not even give a medium coverage, it’s just a sheer coverage foundation. I tried applying with fingertips and brush, but it did not make any difference. You will have to thoroughly conceal any blemishes or acne marks that you have on your skin. It is very lightweight and never feels heavy on skin, it should not because it is a light foundation. It can only be applied lightly on your face and it gives a very dewy finish. It covers pores on the skin in a light manner, it will still be visible.  You will have to powder your T-zone area every 2 to 3 hours especially for combination skin types. I have a dry/combination skin and every 3 hours I apply powder around my nose area where it gets most oily.

In the swatches, I have shown how it looks on my facial skin and hands. It blended pretty well and gave more coverage to my hands than my face. I feel I can use it as a body foundation as it looks better than applying on face.

Considering the light coverage it provides, the staying power is pretty good.  Even after a whole day of wear, it did not make my face dull, foundation stayed there without melting even though I needed occasional touch ups with powder. My face has pinkish undertones when compared to my body which is more yellowish, so I always try to pick up foundations that have a yellow base. This is a yellow-based foundation and it helps in covering up the reddishness to a certain extent. The fragrance of the foundation is a bit weird, a chemical scent which is a little overpowering which goes away after application. There is also SPF 15 which provides certain sun protection along with your sunscreen.

Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation SPF 15

Overall, this foundation is okay if you prefer light coverage that allows your skin to breathe.  This one is for flawless skin or those who have light blemishes to give an even texture to their skin. Those who have acne scars and other imperfections, you can totally skip it. I personally feel this will do better on normal skin.

Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation SPF 15

So, let’s sum up the pros and cons:

Pros of Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation SPF 15:

  • A lightweight foundation that gives a sheer light coverage and an even finish.
  • If applied lightly, it is easy to blend and gives an even coverage.
  • It is a yellow-based foundation that covers redness to a certain extent.
  • As the foundation is not very thick, it is easy to apply and blend, it does not dry out fast.
  • It does not oxidize on the skin or make your skin dull.
  • It gives a glowy and dewy finish after application which most dry skinned beauties would prefer.
  • There is a wide range of shades available to choose according to skin tone.

Cons of Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation SPF 15:

  • It is a very sheer coverage foundation that does not cover up any imperfections on your face.
  • The foundation can be applied only very lightly, a little excess amount can make the whole look streaky and uneven.
  • It does not blend seamlessly into your skin, it just stays like an outer cover.
  • It is not a buildable foundation and cannot be layered, it just sits on the skin without blending properly.
  • A very light foundation that can only be used for daily wear and not for any special occasions.
  • It has a weird chemical fragrance, a little overpowering, but fades away after application.
  • There is SPF 15 which gives a small amount of sun protection.
  • There is no pump dispenser for the foundation and it makes the application very messy.
  • The packaging is a bit bulky to be carried around.
  • Not suitable for oily skinned beauties.

IMBB Rating

3/5. I would not recommend this foundation to anyone because for the price you pay I feel there are even better foundations available in the market. A brand like Bobbi Brown should have come with a better product.

  2. very very good and detailed review jotsna. sad it dint turn out to be so good. 🙁 But it looks like a good everyday foundation. I can actually see your skin through it. What I really like is the shade. It looks such a good shade for indian skin tones. Most companies dont come up with these good colors. And i hare it that these biggie companies dont provide the pump. even my nars one does not have. *hunterwali* *hunterwali*

    1. *thankyou* very much Rati, Ya definitely its good for daily wear and light on skin. They have variety of shades too, its bound to match u some way or the other. Ya where is the pump dispenser Bobbi Brown?

  3. Ooh what a nice detailed review, Jotsna. I’ve wanted to try Bobbi Brown foundations because I like their corrector so much. They have a lot of foundations though and this has helped narrow down choices, it’s not for me since it accentuates dry areas. Good luck with packing and have a safe trip!

    1. *thankyou* very much Ida, they recommended the corrector me hv not purchased it yet. Do tell me abt how the corrector works on ur skin

  5. Excellent review jotsna… Even I Hate it when these companies donot provide pumps… Even clinique superbalanced foundation doesnt have it… I had to purchase a pump from clinique itself to go with the bottle…. So they do make pumps…. Just sell them separately for few extra bucks….Btw,,,,from ur fotd in ur preview lipstick review… I dont think u need anything baby…. Ur skin is so clear and perfect…

    1. Oh that’s such sweet words Arpita, *thankyou* so much. I really don’t prefer much coverage in foundation as I don’t have any major flaws, but this one enhances my dryness sometimes and tends to look so streaky, I have to take real care when applying this, wen u pay so much bucks and get this *nonono*
