I have been wanting to do a roundup of all Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color shades that I have with me in one post since a long time – one because it will ease the process of checking swatches for someone wanting to check the range and two, Neha had said that the colors seemed similar to her so I thought I’d swatch them together. But before I do that, my roundup would be incomplete without first showcasing the one color I had to really search for – Cosmic Raspberry. The shade was so difficult to find – generally sold out at airport counters and even in stores in Thailand and in Hong Kong (Poor hubby who had to go around searching for me!!) I finally found it in Lokhandwala in one store, which keeps imported cosmetics and picked it after paying a king’s ransom for it.
What’s special about it? Having tried the Rich Lip color line, I have figured that it works well for me in texture, longevity and color range. So picking up another shade from the range was a no-brainer. I have found the quality to be consistent across the shade range. Why Cosmic Raspberry? As I have mentioned to you in my previous reviews on Bobbi Brown products, Bobbi believes in enhancing the existing beauty of a person and not using loud, in-your-face colors (like say MAC) – so her colors are wearable, subtle and never loud, over–the-top. Bobbi created cosmic Raspberry when she was challenged by a friend to create a color as loud as possible, but still wearable. That’s how Cosmic Raspberry came into being.
The Product Details (from the website):
Rich Lip Color – In Bobbi’s own words – “I love this formula because it combines color-saturated coverage with an uber lightweight texture”.
Bright, get-noticed color. Lightweight, yet intense, Bobbi’s latest formula combines pigments with a clear base to deliver pure, crisp color with just one swipe. Plus, it’s creamy and moisturizing, so lips feel as good as they look.
Featured in Real Simple magazine’s “5 Worth-it-splurges” (March 2012) and the Today Show for its long-lasting, non-drying formula as well as wide range of shades that complement all skin tones.
These were launched in 12 colours but are now available in 21 colours.
$25 in US for 3.8gms / INR 2150 (from a store in Lokhandwala stocking imported cosmetics at a premium)
The Packaging is standard Bobbi Brown black – it’s sleek sturdy matte high quality plastic packaging. These lipsticks come in a black square tube – like a Chanel lippy. The tube is packed in a black cardboard box.
There is no color indicator on the packaging except the name written on the bottom. If you have more than one, like me, it is difficult to locate the shade you need, in your stash. That’s why I prefer to store them in their respective outer boxes, which bear the shade name on top.The packaging is sturdy and closes with a resounding click. However, it is more of understated elegance than an eye-candy.
My experience with Bobbi Brown – Rich Lip Color – Cosmic Raspberry:
Color: The shade is the most beautiful bright blue toned pink without being fuchsia. There is no shimmer– yet, its not dull or flat color. Its rich bright shade, which can be easily carried off by females of all skin tones. Again, the color hogs the limelight so you need to keep rest of your makeup subtle. This one is bound to turn heads.I guess, Bobbi created just what she set out to do – a bright bold color and yet has a wearable ring to it.
Texture: The product is consistent across shades – the texture is gel-like, extremely lightweight, velvet smooth, non-drying and very comfortable. The lipstick gives opaque pigmentation – with no tug or pull. It goes on glossy but about half an hour, it settles into a semi-matte finish – however, it does not sink into the fine lines on my lips. It is not really hydrating but neither does it dry my lips. There is no feeling of tightening of lips post application or even later.
Pigmentation: Again, it is EXTREMELYpigmented – about 80% colour deposit in a single swipe. The colour is opaque in the first swipe itself and hides lip pigmentation fully and effectively.
Lasting power:The product lasted about 6hours+ on me post which it started fading and left a pink stain – which stayed for 2-3 hours and had to be taken off completely with a makeup remover.
