Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color – Plum Rose Review

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color – Plum Rose

I’m about to go on my third pan of Bobbi Brown’s Color Corrector—a staple—but aside from that, I haven’t explored Bobbi Brown’s other products. Not because I don’t want to, but because everything seems so nice I don’t know what to pick. Luckily, a cousin made a choice for me when she thoughtfully gifted me last year with the Bobbi Brown Plum Rose Rich Lip Color.
Lipstick, always a good place to start!

Product claim:

Bright, get-noticed color. Lightweight, yet intense, Bobbi’s latest formula combines pigments with a clear base to deliver pure, crisp color with just one swipe. Plus, it’s creamy and moisturizing, so lips feel as good as they look.

Bobbi Brown has several types of lipstick formulas available, each with a different finish and feature. The Rich Lip Color lipsticks are supposed to be lightweight, pigmented, and creamy. There are 21 shades of it to choose from. It’s true that this lipstick has a creamy, smooth feel. That’s one of the first things I noticed about it (I tried it on immediately when I got it!). The Plum Rose Rich Lip Color has no noticeable moisture or slickness to it, but it glides easily on the lips. It doesn’t pull on my lips when I swipe it on.

And yes, it’s lightweight too. Despite its creamy formula, I don’t really feel it on my lips once I’ve put it on. There are some creamy lipsticks that, after application, you know you’ve got it on your lips, but this one I almost just forget that I have it on. It is pigmented and I can achieve opaque color with it using one layer. Speaking of color, this shade, Plum Rose, is described on the Bobbi Brown website as a rich plum, but to my eyes it’s a plummy pink-brown lipstick. It looks a little dark in the tube and even when swatched, but it is so wearable.

I do not find plum, purple, or dark vampy lippies easy to wear at all, but Plum Rose is such a user-friendly shade of plum. I find it flattering with the rest of my makeup minimal, just base to make my skin look more even and little or no blush. I wore Plum Rose a lot in December, when I looked especially pale. It really seemed to give my face the lift and contrast it needed. It has a semi-matte finish. The Bobbi Brown Plum Rose Rich Lip Color lasts 5-7 hours on my lips, which isn’t bad at all. I don’t find it moisturizing, nor drying on my lips. It doesn’t bleed outside of my lips while I’m wearing it, and it doesn’t feather or look too patchy as it wears on.

It has SPF 12, which is nice, but I think is the cause of the one thing that I don’t like about this product. It smells like sunscreen to me! There are times when it doesn’t bother me so much, but when my nose is being particularly sensitive, it can be overwhelming upon application. Thankfully the scent fades in 10-15 minutes. There is a slight taste to it, but I don’t find it so bad, between the two the scent is what I notice more.

The Plum Rose Rich Lip Color has a smooth, matte black casing that looks simple but elegant. It costs 25 USD.

• Lightweight feel on the lips
• Pigmented—opaque color in one swipe
• The color stays long on the lips
• Wearable, flattering shade of plum
• It’s not drying
• The packaging looks sleek and doesn’t get scratchy

Cons of Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color – Plum Rose

• Smells like sunscreen

Overall:

I like the color, texture, feel, and staying power of this lipstick, but when my nose is being picky, I tend to avoid it due to its scent. I’m not sure if I would buy it. I might check out Bobbi Brown’s other lipstick formulas for similar shade instead. I would recommend it if you’re not mindful of scented lippies and are looking for a wearable shade of plum.

    1. Bee, thank you! This shade is part of their permanent range- it’s on the bobbi brown website. Hopefully you can get a hold of it. 🙂 I want to try more of their lipsticks. *woot* Can’t believe I hit pan on my 2nd corrector already.

    1. Parul, I know what you mean. *haan ji* Some plum lipsticks can be hard to pull off. I think it’s the pink in this that makes it easier to wear. 🙂
