Bobbi Brown Ultra Fine Eye Liner Brush Review

Skin type: oily-sensitive, acne prone
Skin tone: Fair-light, yellow-neutral undertones

Hello, gals!
Hope all of you are doing fine. I am here to share my first high-end brush purchase with you all and the honor goes to Bobbi Brown, one of my beloved brands. Ever since I entered into makeup practice, I had a dream of sporting those perfect cat eye and winged liner. And, now that I own the best of gel liners in my kit, all I needed was a perfect liner brush to make my dream come true. I purchased this ultra fine brush along with the Sepia Ink Gel Liner as recommended by the SA (I doubt these gals ever research on products they try to sell us! :P). As much as I am floored by the liner, I am in a dilemma about this liner brush. So let’s read more about the Bobbi Brown Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush today!

My Experience with Bobbi Brown Ultra Fine Eye Liner Brush:

The ultra fine brush is certainly ultra fine in dimensions with a laminated wooden handle, much to my liking. However, I am disappointed to see that they haven’t included any sturdy cap; there’s just a hollow plastic tube for the safety of the bristles. Once you lose that teeny tube, you are done!

I see that the brush fibers are all natural but they seem non-pokey and soft on my eyes, hence, nothing irks other than the natural hairs. 😛 It is, however, impressive to see that the dimensions of the brush are apt for lining and defining the eyes. The ultra thin body gives a good grip to my non-skilled hands. The bristles are way soft and stiff at the same time to provide a firm hold.

packaging

And as I mentioned earlier, I am still in two minds about this brush because it definitely helps to line and define my eyes nicely, but I always find it hard to create a wing at the outer corner somehow. I see that it tends to splay while working on the outer edges and I never get a fine finish whether I use a gel liner or a liquid liner. Though it is surprising to see that it works pretty fine with powder eyeshadows; I use this damp brush to line the outer corner of lids with powder eyeshadows and it gives as thin lines as possible with good color pay off.

In fact, it picks up the right amount of gel liner for one-time usage, but I don’t find it suitable for creating fine lines or wings. It works well for thicker lines but then I won’t suggest this brush to beginners as it is not going to forgive your shaky hands. I also use the Urban Decay brush applicator (accompanied with their eye palettes) and it works so much better than this ultra fine liner honestly, especially with gel liners. I always get a perfect wing at the outer corners of my eyes with those applicators as they won’t splay in the middle of usage, unlike this soft brush.

cap

Probably it is not meant for cream or liquid formulas as I believe that natural fibers don’t go well with rich creamy formulas. Such brushes work like a bliss with powder formulas. Moreover, I can see that this ultra fine brush works well as per its claims when used with powder eyeshadows even with a damp tip while it starts to splay as soon as I use it with thick gel liners. In fact, I tried it with Clinique Brush on Cream Liner and it turned out a bit messy, as usual, on the outer corners.

bristles

I definitely take credits for amateur skills but this brush has something wrong that even with several attempts I am not able to perfect even the simplest of winged liner look. I have no complaints with its handling and maintenance; I have washed it a couple of times in few weeks of usage and it didn’t shed, it retained its fine shape with super soft bristles and appeared as fresh as new.

close up

I don’t think I would get it again considering I am a beginner with gel liners and liner brushes; probably makeup pros would like this soft brush for the precise fine finish, but it is certainly a skip for beginners.

Let’s sum up pros and cons:
