The Body Shop Born Lippy Passion Berry Lip Balm

A friend of mine is a true lip balm addict, just like I love lipsticks, though she would not collect them with the same enthusiasm. Now, she is in Delhi, far away from me, but we would still talk every day and every time we video chat, she has some gorgeous lip balm on.  She can go on and on about lip balms and she does have the perfect bow shaped lips for balms. Back in college, she never wore lipsticks, but just lip balms all the time.  I remember how she used to love strawberry ones and always had one in her bag.

For me, lip balms are more like a necessity than a beauty tool.  I am not into shiny lips at all, simply because they look over the top for me, I prefer cream to matte lips. But I owe my “little love” for lip balms to her!

Another friend of mine sent me The Body Shop Satsuma Shimmer Lip Balm and that is how I brought myself to like The Body Shop lip balms.  Like always, if I like some thing, I will go out and collect as many as possible till I think I have explored all options 😛 Hence, I bought myself two more The Body Shop lip balms, because I loved the Satsuma shimmer one so much.

Now, the best part I love about these is that they are so soft, almost gooey for me.  I had never known such balms, having used the Lotus Herbals ones and the rest which are very tight in the pot and you have to literally scrape them off to get some and the whole process makes it cumbersome. So, I switched to the twists-up for some time.

But now back to the tub form balms, these are a cute thing in themselves.  The process of getting some soft balm and then applying it throughout the day makes it enjoyable, especially due to the texture and the heavenly fresh smell these have.  The smell of this one I believe is passion fruit, but to me, it smells like a mix of guava and lime and I love it to death. Its so fresh for this summer that I keep using it the whole day long.

The staying power can be a problem if you use these at bed time. These are a little towards the lighter side and may just wipe off in one hour or so. For me, during the day, it lasts for two hours and the moisture stays for another one hour and then I feel like re-applying it. Remember, I don’t have dry lips usually, but in the AC, it gets bad and otherwise due to prolonged lipstick usage. I also stay in a very humid city and hence the performance might be better for me.

The pot seems to be made of some thin plastic which is a little bit of a put off.  Also, some of us don’t like to use finger tips to get the product out of these pots, but for me, I use this indoors, so I don’t have an issue with that, but it might not be so convenient to carry around.

The finish is almost clear with a very shiny and saucy look to it.  The color may leave behind a little plumy tint to the shine it gives, nothing much though, it would look great on top of lipsticks as well I suppose.

Last Word on The Body Shop Born Lippy Passion Berry Lip Balm:
For girls with very dry lips, you may want some thing long lasting. This is more like a maintenance balm for me, with just the right soft texture, the great fresh smell.  I would like to have all of them from TBS now 😛

I’d been wanting to try out different variants of the TBS lip balms since a long time. So I finally got the passion fruit variant, mainly for its colour. However this product has turned out to be a dud in every single aspect possible. First of the overpowering, sweet, and kind of annoying fragrance bothers me every time I use it. Second, the colour doesn’t even shows up a tad bit but leaves this shiny glance on the lips. This shine doesn’t stay on the lips even for 2 hrs. The lip balm disappears from my lips within a short fraction of time, leaving them dry and flaky. Not that I have to mention, but you would have guessed by now- No it doesn’t treat or heal chapped lips in any way. And the tub packaging adds another point to the list of its cons. Overall this product is a total no if you are looking for a lip balm to treat and heal your lips.

  1. true Ritu. one of the first things I bought from TBS since it was more affordable at the time. now i have evolved to the Lush and MACs so I am spending a little more for sure..btw Faces vanilla lip balm (reviewed recently) is pretty good.

  2. I was going to order this from Medplusbeauty, but I didn’t cause I wasn’t sure if it would be moisturizing enough and if the smell would suit my nose! Now, I’m going to order it right away. I have really dry lips, but wouldn’t mind applying often! And I love stuff that come in tubs, they are so pretty, though unhygienic! 🙂 Nice review Neha 🙂
