The Body Shop Lip Liner no. 06 in Mahogany

Hello everyone at IMBB,

Today I am going to review The Body Shop Lip Liner 06 in Mahogany. I really hadn’t planned on purchasing this. Since long, I was on the lookout for a dark brown lipliner to complement one of my brown lipsticks and had checked out many others but couldn’t find the shade that I wanted. So, when I was at a TBS outlet recently and saw this liner I was really happy to have found my color. This was the darkest shade in brown they had and when the SA swatched it on my hand, it appeared just right. There is this saying “All that glitters is not gold”. So here’s my experience with TBS lip liner in Mahogany.

The body shop lip liner mahogany

Rs. 415 for 1.25gms.

It comes in a Dark Chocolaty Brown colored wooden pencil form with a steel cap. If you were to place it among a box of pencil colors you would definitely not find it unless you check The Body Shop Logo engraved on it.

About the lip liner:

This soft-textured pencil defines lips and helps to keep lipstick inside the lipline.

  • Reduces lipstick bleed
  • Dermatologically tested
  • Made with FSC cedarwood

Instructions for use: Draw along the lip line before applying lipstick.

Full list of Ingredients:

Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Emollient/Hair Conditioner), Mica (Opacifier), Hydrogenated Castor Oil (Emollient), Ceresin (Stabiliser), Sclerocarya birrea (Marula Oil) (Skin Conditioning Agent), Methylparaben (Preservative), Butylparaben (Preservative), Ethylparaben (Preservative), Tocopherol (Antioxidant), Isobutylparaben (Preservative), Propylparaben (Preservative), CI 77891 (Colour), CI 77491 (Colour), CI 77499 (Colour), CI 77492 (Colour).

I got this considering that the liner is of a dark brown color but when I got back home, I was astonished to find that this was not the case. Though the actual color resembles that of the body but is slightly lighter than the outer coloring. When applied it gives an even lighter color and you need to swipe about 3-4 times to get the desired color.
on the hand

The actual color is close to a dark Indian red shade. The texture is soft and gives a smooth finish when swatched on hands but not on lips. I have found the tip to break while lining my lips and needs to be sharpened at frequent intervals. Does not smudge a lot but does not stay for long. This pencil has a life span of 36 months but I don’t think its going to last even for two months when used regularly.

I have done a lip swatch by filling in the entire lips with this color. As you can see the color is not as dark as I was expecting.

The pros of The Body Shop lip liner 06-Mahogany:

There aren’t too many. It does reduce lipstick bleed as it claims and that’s the only positive attribute about it.

Cons of The Body Shop lip liner 06-Mahogany:

  • The actual color is very different when applied.
  • Is not as dark as it appears.
  • Is not very soft on application and the tip breaks very easily.
  • Expectations were high from a brand like The Body Shop.
  • Does not stay for long and requires frequent touch ups.

 Overall verdict:

I am definitely not repurchasing and wouldn’t recommend this  to anyone else either. It is better to invest in liners from other companies.

  1. I am somehow thinking of Priyanka C’s uber matte lips when I see this shade…TBS eye and lipliners are hugely disappointing for me 🙁

    1. This shade is good and actually it suits my dusky complexion well, so usually goes with most of my outfits. But just finishes too quickly 🙁
