The Body Shop Olive Shower Gel Review

The Body Shop Olive Shower Gel

About the product:

Packed with skin-softening oleic acid, olive oil has been used for centuries throughout the Mediterranean as a moisturizer. Legend has that athletes in ancient Greece would rub olive oil onto their bodies. So it’s only natural that our Community Trade organic olive oil should come from southern Italy where it’s grown on family farms. We pay the farmers of the Nuevo Cliento co-operative, our Community Trade partner, a fair and guaranteed price that enables them to work their land, build their future, and stay in their communities.

Best if you want to: Cleanse and moisturize your skin using a soap-free gel that leaves your skin feeling soft and fresh with a brisk green scent.
Best for: normal to dry skin

How it works

– Community Trade organic olive oil helps to condition skin.
– Glycerin is a water-soluble moisturizer that also enriches foam and lather.

Please excuse the dirty bottle—this is stored in the shower so it has water stains on it. During Christmas, my aunt gifted my husband and me a The Body Shop shower gel each: Olive for him and Japanese Cherry Blossom for me. I share the Olive Shower Gel with my husband because I actually like its scent more than Japanese Cherry Blossom. To me it does embody the smell of real olives. It’s simple, somewhat herbal, natural-smelling, and fresh. I don’t think the smell is neither masculine nor feminine. The scent is quite unisex.

What I like about The Body Shop Olive Shower Gel

-The fresh scent, which for me is just perfect for an uplifting shower in the mornings, and makes it a lot of fun to take baths. The scent would be lovely for spring and summer seasons as well.
-Its scent is mild and not overpowering. It also doesn’t last long, which some people might not like, but I prefer my bath products this way so their scents don’t interfere with the perfume I’ll use later on.
-It’s affordable at $8 for a 250ml bottle, even more when The Body Shop marks down items during sales (which they often have here).
-That The Body Shop offers other products in the same scent, so that I can prolong or make the Olive scent stronger by layering it, if I wanted to.
-It lathers nicely, especially when used with a bath lily.
-It is gentle to my skin and did not cause any itchiness or irritation.
-It did not make my skin dry.
-Its simple, minimalist packaging which I think goes well with its clean, natural scent.
-It’s made by a company who cares about community trade and does not test on animals.

What I don’t like about The Body Shop Shower Gel

-While it didn’t leave my skin dry, it did not make it feel more moisturized either. It just felt the same. So if you’re looking for a moisturizing body wash, this is not the right product for you.

Overall, I like this product, mostly for its scent, and would recommend it for those with normal skin looking for a shower gel with a fresh, simple, unisex scent. I am thinking of getting The Body Shop’s body butter in the Olive scent to go with this. My only wish about this product is that it would make my skin soft and moisturized, as it claims.

    1. Hi Swati, yeah, definitely give TBS a try. :)) They have a huge range of products…you’re bound to find a few that you’ll like. :))

    1. Hi Bhumika, yup, I like the Olive scent…am not so into floral scents for bath products. 🙂 I prefer moisturizing body washes too actually. Thank you! :)) :))

    1. I haven’t tried the Olive shampoo…but I did try their strawberry one years ago and it felt like water, heehee. So I’ve never bought a TBS shampoo again. 🙂

    1. Hi Priya! I’m not really into floral, girly scents for bath products- I prefer fresh, herbal, or foody ones, so I liked Olive better than Japanese Cherry Blossom. But if you like floral scents, you might like Jap Cherry Blossom better. :))

  2. I don’t know about this product. But when it comes to shower gel, I only use Discover Borneo Tropical Rainforest. It’s quite good and works for me well.
