The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Shampoo
Hello Beautiful People!
Today, I will be reviewing my current favorite shampoo, The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture. The other variant (the popular one I assume) is already reviewed here. There is apparently another variant I was totally unaware of here.
Product Description:
Gently cleanses to help restore moisture and improve the hair’s softness without weighing it down, for a smooth and shiny finish. With pracaxi oil, manketti nut oil and Community Trade honey and sugar. No silicones, sulphates, parabens or colourants.
This shampoo contains no silicones, sulphates, parabens or colourants. It also meets our eco-conscious standard*. It is respectful to the aquatic environment, meets strict biodegradability standards, and minimizes the use of non-sustainable packaging resources. We are working hard to help protect our planet. Together we can make a difference.
The pracaxi tree grows in the wet tropical climate along the Delta of Amazonas River and its precious seeds are cold pressed for its oil. Manketti nut oil is traditionally used as a body rub during the dry African winter to moisturise skin. We buy Community Trade honey from organic sources in Africa and sugar from the Montillo Co-operative in Paraguay. Our trade rewards local suppliers fairly for their expertise, and helps them invest in their futures.
Suitable for dry and damaged hair.
Tips:
Dry and damaged hair often lacks shine so using a moisture-rich shampoo will retain a smoother finish and shinier look.
Instructions:
Mix a small amount in the hands with water to create lather. Massage into the scalp and rinse thoroughly. Follow with Moisture Conditioner.
Ingredients:
Water, Sucrose, Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Lauryl Betaine, Laureth-5 CarboxylicAcid, Honey, PEG-55 Propylene Glycol Oleate, Prolylene Glycol, Sodium Chloride, Glycerin, Fragrance, Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate, Sodium Benzoate, Sucrose Laurate, Isopropyl Alchohol, Polyquaternium-6, Salicylic Acid, Citric Acid, Schinziophyton Kautanenii Kernel Oil, Pentaclethra Macroloba Seed Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Tocopherol
Cost:
Rs. 515/- for 250 ml.
Now, I have used the “Shine” range and that was the first TBS product I bought and that too on the recommendation of IMBB!! Yay! It was a desperate buy to regain my beautiful tresses to the ancient glory and fuelled by my obsessive need for it to be “harmful chemical free.” I do not regret it one bit, it did help me a lot and I quickly finished one bottle. The next time I visited TBS to renew my supply, I saw this variant and the words “for dry and damaged hair” hooked me. I have already finished one bottle and I am on the second one, and now I am in a position to compare both and the verdict is: I like the Moisture range more than the Shine range. This maybe a personal preference as all their shampoos are awesome, but the reason I chose this over “Shine” is that it is more moisturizing and hence a better fit to my hair (especially the ends which tend to be quite dry).
I use it along with the hair butter of the same range reviewed here. The final effect is smooth, nice, natural looking hair. The TBS shampoos any way do not impart that super shiny, Dove like effect, but who is complaining. I totally love the natural bounce and fall of my hair after using this shampoo.
Pros of The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Shampoo:
- No silicones, sulphates, parabens or colourants (so no chemical locha :D)
- Removes oil in a single wash (head dunked in the oil barrel level or in fact remember bachpan mein when you oil too much and sit against a wall leaving the tell-tale oil marks on the wall :P)
- Does not have a bothering smell, quite pleasant in fact.
- Most importantly, the natural, unstyled looking hair.
Cons of The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Shampoo:
- The cost (think of all the sumptuous cakes and chocolates you could have bought with that money), but kuch toh sacrifice karna padega!!
- If you are looking for a Dove-like ultra smooth to touch and tamed hair, then this is not for you at all.
- Hair is greasy on the third day, I don’t bother sometimes 😛 but you won’t have that fresh shampoo look definitely after two days (con for me because I don’t like washing my hair often, did I hear “chi chi” :P)
IMBB Rating:
4.5/5 (still waiting to find that 5/5 rating “wala” shampoo).
Will I Buy The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Shampoo Again?
I will keep it on the back of my mind, but I want to try something else for now after this bottle gets over. Any suggestions?

Nice review Soujanya..waiting for my vlcc stuffs to get over..this is in my wishlist 🙂
I endup buying too many things after the revu come sup on imbb..one fine day i will b bankrupt.. heheheh
Ha ha same thing happens to me, I hoard much more than I use 😛
I just stocked the shine bottle, woh bhi bada wala 🙁 now I want this! What do I do? Why do IMBB tempt so much *waaaaaaaaaaaaa*
Hey shine is also good, its just that I liked moisture one more 🙂
it doesnot remove oil at all for me. I found the banana shampoo from TBS better than this for my dry frizzy hair.
Oh for me even castor oil goes off in a single wash….
i think i have used it but i stopped because it was not adding volume to my hair and making my hair greasy the second day itself. :(( bt yeah the best part is that it is silicone and parabens free… whatever works. 🙂
Ya even I get the greasiness but on third day, there are so few SLS etc free shampoos, this is by far the best amongst the ones I have used 🙂
nice review Soujanya…i’ve used the rainforest radiance shampoo for a long time (u missed mentioning it :P) .it’s good but i kinda got bored using it for like so long 😛 and therefore got the moisture one..i’m really liking it 🙂
Hey thank you for reminding me…yeah I also tend to get bored using same shampoo….thats why looking for a change 🙂
Oh btw just wanted to let u girls here know that Victoria secrets and Bath n Body Works are having their semi annual sale at the moment..if anyone has family or friends who can get stuff for them from the Usa then, then this is the right time to shop!
I have this but didnt suit me..i think using with conditioner is weigh down’s my hair 🙁 have to try using only shampoo
yeah.. same here parita.. the conditioner doesnt suit me.. bt this shampoo s good on me.. 🙂
Yeah it is for extremely dry hair and one should use a small amount of conditioner 🙂
This shampoo has been so much raved about…Loved reading your review soujanya..I’d love to give this a try for sure!! 🙂
Thank you Kimi 🙂 Do give it a try, its good for dry damaged hair 🙂
I luv this shampoo. 😀
Me too 🙂
Nice review Soujanaya 🙂
Didn’t suit me at all 🙁
Thank you Deepshikha 🙂 Try some other variant in this range….it suited me quite well 🙂
TBS had a 50% off on travel size packs so I bought all the variants available.None worked for me 🙁
this shampoo gave me terible hairfall, so much that i consulted a doctor and started medication. along with the shapoo tbs moisture conditioner also didn`t work for me. i`ve 2 big unused bottles of it.
OMG! Its too bad….some specific ingredient must not have suited you 🙁
this is my HG shampoo! but for oiled hair it doesn’t work in a single wash 🙁
Hey try diluting it with a little bit of water and then use…lathers more that way. It even washes off castor oil in one wash 🙂
I’ve dry hair. For me too, hair feels greasy from the second day onwards and irritation starts on the scalp. Not happy with this one.
I’m loosing my hair….bfr 11 months i had my hair rebonded(INDIA)….nd i got massive hairfall….so with that i stopped using hair spa nd stopped conditioners too applying to my hair and till now am just using “lorial professionnel paris liss ultime oil incell shampoo”…..infact with that also am suffering with hairfall nd alot with dryness…..guess my hair got damaged with that rebonding….soo can anyone help me out, which one is the best shampoo and conditioner(should me MILD AND SLS FREE) should i use for dry, damaged nd for hairfall..???.my hair got very thin….Help me please…..
Hi Neha,
Dont panic.. Please read posts on hair rebonding and Wella hair straightning cream. While rebonding, if chemical touches roots of hair then it can cause hair fall. But as u say its before 11 months i hope hairfall will now reduce.
Body shop shampoos are good and mild, you may try those. I will suggest matrix hydration one, which is very good.
Dont stop spa’s. they are good for chemically treated hair. Try to oil your hair heavily before shampoo. It will help to take care of dry hair.
Eat protien diet, try supplements for hair growth (refer article on that one too)
Last bt not the least, drink alot of water and stay happy!!!
Anybody please help me out
Hey girls,
I just stumbled upon this blog while looking for Rainforest moisture review. A real, sincere effort by Soujanya and a great service for us, who are looking to try new product. Keep it up!
Just curious – what’s IMBB???
Thanks
