Ritu Kumar is the undisputed queen of Indian Couture. Her designs are richly soaked in tradition and culture and her designs include the famous textiles of our country. When it comes to designer bridal outfits, the first name that springs to mind is that of Ritu Kumar. Her rich bridal lehengas and sarees are much sought after. Ritu Kumar has also designed national outfits for Miss India winners for their International pageants. Ritu Kumar has three labels under her – “Ritu Kumar”, “Ri”, and “Label Ritu Kumar.” She has a glorious 25-year career in the fashion industry. In 2013, Ritu Kumar was awarded the Padma Shri Award recognizing her contribution in the field of fashion, textile and craftsmanship. Ritu Kumar uses traditional motifs, prints, and textiles in a magical way that attracts women of all generations. She has revived many textiles in the country and helped to resurrect many textile forms that were going kaput. Wikipedia describes her journey like this: “Ritu Kumar began her career in 1969 with just four hand block printers and two tables in a small village near Kolkata and today the brand retails from nearly 35 stores in India. She has pioneered the term “fashion” in the Indian context and more importantly has demonstrated that hand-made products can be as profitable, and even more glamorous than those made by machine. The company sources the finest fabrics with great craftsmanship from across the country thereby contributing to revival of Indian textiles and providing employment to hundreds of artisans.”
A lot of Bollywood and Hollywood celebrities patronize Ritu Kumar designs, but while collecting pictures for this post, I felt that not many Bollywood divas were able to do justice to her outfits. You would have seen some awesome designs in the stores or on the ramp from this designer, but do tell me which ones you liked from this lot 🙂

Here, pictures of Aishwarya Rai from her Miss India/World days, in Ritu Kumar outfits.
That’s it, honestly and reiterating, I don’t think all of the actresses did justice to the designer, my vote goes for Dia Mirza and Aishwarya Rai, what do you think?
