Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask Review

By Tanvi Chaturvedi

Skin type: oily, acne prone

Hii all,

I have oily skin, so I am a fan of clay masks. Today’s review is about one such clay mask from the brand Boots Botanics, which I absolutely love. It’s called Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask. Keep reading to know more about it.

Price: AED 20 for 100 ml
Claims:
Our skin can often become congested with many cleansing masks over-drying the face. This mineral-rich oceanic clay mask contains a negative electrical charge which acts like a magnet, helping to draw deep-rooted impurities out of the skin without drying. Its hydrating and oil absorbing properties leave skin soft, smooth and wonderfully cleansed.
Treat your skin to a deep cleaning with Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask. It contains the clarifying ingredient willow bark, to help draw out and absorb oil and impurities without over drying the skin. This facial mask is designed for use on normal skin; the unscented, hypo-allergenic formula prevents irritation. The hydrating benefits of this mask leave skin feeling clearer, softer, smoother and less oily.

Ingredients:
Sea Silt (Natural Oceanic Clay), Aqua (Water), Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Salix Nigra (Willow) Bark Extract.
Packaging:
I prefer flip caps over twist over caps, but it comes in a basic plastic tube packaging with a normal twist cap, which is very secure. The cap is quite sturdy and leakproof. It’s easy to carry around. Plus, the tube is transparent so you can see how much product is left.

My Experience with Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask:

When I first got the tube I shook it to see what the consistency was like. It was very runny and watery, so I do recommend shaking prior each use. The texture is slightly gritty, so I feel there is a very mild, physical exfoliation action.

It spreads very easily on the skin. The instructions say to leave it on for 10 minutes, which is perfect. At that point, that mask isn’t ALL the way dry, which is a good thing. With a clay mask, you should rinse off before the mask has dried completely to prevent your skin from drying out.

I had no difficulties washing the mask off. It turns from a deep dark green to a light, mint green, so it’s easy to tell when it’s dry. After I rinsed the mask off, my skin felt squeaky clean and there was some tingling sensation afterwards. That sensation went away after I applied aloe vera gel, though.

My skin also felt softer and smoother and not dry, as promised. With regular usage, it has helped a lot in controlling my hormonal acne. I can see a significant difference in my skin. There’s no real scent to this product – just the typical smell of a clay mask.

Overall, if you have overly sensitive or extremely dry skin, this might not be the product for you. This product is ideal for people with oily or combination skin.

Pros of Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask:

• Cleanses the pores thoroughly
• Perfect for oily and acne prone skin
• Clears up acne
• Genuinely cleanses the skin and extracts impurities
• Inexpensive

Cons of Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask:

• Harsh on drier, more sensitive skin

• Stings a bit and may cause redness after use
