Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal Review

Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal Review

Purchased by IMBB

Hello ladies,

In my last review, I had mentioned how BB creams primarily originated as Asian cosmetic products have gained popularity in the western market recently.  Today, I am writing about a similar product, it is called Konjac sponge. After being used as a beauty treatment for over a century in countries like Japan and Korea, it is climbing the popularity charts pretty fast in the western beauty industry. I had to try it out to see how it exactly works or if it does work at all? I bought the one from the brand Boscia. Read on to see how I feel about the Konjac sponge.

A pore-perfecting pillow-soft Konjac Cleansing Sponge infused with Bamboo Charcoal for clean, smooth skin. My Experience with Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal:

I bought this sponge out of sheer excitement and inquisitiveness. Before I started to actually use it on myself, I had to do all the research about it to convince my inner nerdy self. Thank God for internet 😛 it is such a boon. Let me share what I found about these sponges.

Konjac sponge is made from the root of Konjac potato plant which is cultivated for food in Japan and Korea. Japanese have been eating this plant for more than 1500 years for its health benefits.  It is a totally natural food source with 97 percent water and 3 percent dietary fiber. Over a century ago, Japanese started using konjac vegetable as a beauty treatment for skin as it is rich in loads of vitamins like A,E,D,B2,B6,B12 and minerals. The konjac is supposed to be slightly alkaline which neutralizes the slightly acidic grime and dirt and purifies the skin.

A lot of websites are selling konjac sponges now for different prices. You have to find the real deal and not go for the fake ones. You can find different sponges which are infused with various ingredients to work for your skin types like -French red clay ones for dry and sensitive skin, green clay ones for normal to oily skin, pink clay for tired and dehydrated skin and the one that I got is infused with bamboo charcoal and it is ideal for my oily and acne-prone skin.

Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal

Boscia konjac cleansing sponge comes packaged in a black plastic box and once you take it out of the box, it looks like a semi-circular shaped hard piece of grey lava rock. It comes with a white thread pierced through the sponge which can be used to hang the sponge after every use.

I use this sponge to clean my face while showering every morning.  I rinse it with warm water and it turns from this hard rock to a pillow soft, squishy sponge. Using it the first time, I was surprised to see how soft it turned within seconds. Then, I squeeze it between my hands to get the extra water out and it is ready to be used.

Konjac sponge can be used by itself or with your regular face wash. I usually put a drop of my face cleanser on the flat side of the wet sponge and start massaging my face in a circular motion. It feels very soft and gentle on my face, not at all abrasive. It is supposed to gently exfoliate away the dead cells and impurities and that is exactly what it does. The circular massaging stimulates the skin cells renewal process and increase the blood circulation to the face. It feels that my face is getting a deep cleansing mini facial every morning.

My skin feels very clean and smooth afterwards. The sponge sloughs off the dry and flaky cells and makes my skin look smooth and radiant. There is no redness or irritation due to this sponge. It is gentle enough to use every day.

The bamboo charcoal in this sponge is supposed to act as an anti-bacterial agent and detoxify pores and minimize their appearance. After using this sponge for past month with the Mario Badescu Acne Cleanser, I have definitely noticed that my face is not as oily as it usually is and the blackheads around the nose area seem to be diminishing with every use. My make up goes on better on my smoother skin. I have not noticed a difference in the size of my pores though, but I am hopeful to see more results as I will be using it routinely in my face cleansing routine.

You have to take care of your sponge for it to last longer. After each use, I rinse the sponge well to get all the cleanser out and then squeeze out the excess water. I hang the sponge with the attached thread and leave it to air dry. I never keep it on any surface to dry as it can get moldy. It takes about two days to dry but you don’t have to wait for it to dry completely to reuse it. After 3 weeks of regular use, I put it in water in a bowl and microwave it for few minutes to disinfect it. It is advised on the website to replace your sponge every 2-3 months. Till now, my sponge has been holding up pretty well.

Boscia konjac sponge is doing what my Clarisonic does for my face, but at a fraction of the price. All of you ladies who want to try Clarisonic but are hesitant to make that investment yet, you should definitely try using the konjac sponge.

This sponge is great for our skin type, with the acne and the dry flaky patches this will be gentle but still a good exfoliant. Look for it online, you can find it.
