Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation Review

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation Review

I bugged my mom, who has better access to Bourjois products than I do (and at a cheaper price), to get me the Healthy Mix Serum Foundation after hearing Lisa Eldridge recommend it more than once, for dry skin types.  I totally needed to try it on my dry skin.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation

Product Description from Bourjois’ official website:

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation

This is not the same as what is probably Bourjois’ most popular product, the Healthy Mix Foundation, which I haven’t tried yet. Although comparing the descriptions of the Healthy Mix Foundation and the Healthy Mix Serum Foundation on the Bourjois website, the two sound very similar, the only difference being that the serum one claims to have an instant anti-fatigue effect.  This foundation is in a slim glass bottle with a pump dispenser. It’s simple and looks like typical drugstore makeup packaging. I find it easy to control the amount of foundation dispensed using the pump, which has a small nozzle.  It has a fruity scent that I usually smell right away after pumping some out of the bottle.  I would prefer if it were more mildly scented, but actually, it doesn’t really bother me that much.

I like the texture of this and enjoy using it, does remind me of a serum, because it’s got that kind of silicone-y (it does contain dimethicone) gel-like feel to it.  I would describe it as “slippery” on the skin, which I find delightful, because not many foundations feel that way on my very dry skin. Usually they drag a little and catch on dry bits, making my skin look even more dry, but not this one. It spreads smoothly and doesn’t emphasize flaking or dry skin.  It blends easily and I don’t find a brush necessary to achieve an even finish. My fingers or a sponge work well enough with this. It doesn’ t tend to look streaky or cakey, and it is so easy to apply. Also, it’s lightweight and comfortable on the skin.

The finish of it is not outright dewy, but satin. It has no shimmer/glitter, and it looks natural. I would have liked a touch of more dewiness, personally, especially for the coming cooler months, but I am happy that it looks like skin, and not like a mask.  It gives light to medium coverage, which is just about right for me. I prefer to cover major discolorations with concealer, and the rest of my face with not a whole lot of coverage or product.  This foundation is not ideal for someone who likes complete coverage all over, but for someone who wants a more even, fresher, but natural-looking complexion, with the skin underneath still being somewhat visible.

The Healthy Mix Serum Foundation is available in only six shades. I couldn’t swatch them in person and just eyeballed it. My skin tone is medium with yellow undertones, NC35 at the moment, and luckily the shade I picked, 53 Beige Clair, is a decent match! It looked a little orangey when I first swatched it, but on my face, it looks fine, not too warm or anything.

It lasts for about 6 hours on my skin, which is not too bad. It doesn’t oxidize on me, and it doesn’t irritate/break out my skin either.

Pros of Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation:

  • Smooth, gel-like texture.
  • Being easily blendable makes it easy to apply.
  • Doesn’t cling to dry or even flakey skin.
  • Natural-looking finish; doesn’t look thick.
  • Helps make the skin tone look more even.
  • Was able to get a match with 53 Beige Clair.
  • Lasts on for several hours on my skin.
  • Doesn’t oxidize on me.
  • Doesn’t irritate my skin.
  • Inexpensive.

Cons of Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation:

  • Strong scent.
  • Not many shades to choose from.
  • Will not cover pimples/very dark pigmentation.

Would I Repurchase Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation?

Yes!

Overall Recommendation:

It’s love for me. It’s so easy to apply and blend to anatural-looking finish, it’saffordable, and best of all, it suits my dry skin.  Highly recommend it for dry skin types, and for normal/combo/oily skin, I think it’s worth a shot too.

  1. I love reading your reviews Ida! This seems like a promising product. I have heard good reviews about their original healthy mix formulation too. I’ll definitely like to give this one a spin..

    1. Thanks KK, I appreciate that! It is. I’ve heard so much good things too about the original Healthy Mix too, though this seems like it has a more satin finish and gel-like texture.

  2. Nice pic Ida…i can vouch on this one being a decent product…. Even i m in shade 52/53 i forgot….. And only problem is that i am now floating in foundations…. So picked up no more… However picked up this sample and it was good… Yeah really good

  3. i seriously dont like these scented makeup products. 🙁 but overall this foundation looks really good. Bourjois rarely goes wrong with their makeup right? 🙂 good review, ida 🙂

  4. I love products that say smooth, satin etc *happydance* . and I am big into minimalistic makeup these days. These kind of products seem perfect. I am assuming this is available in India too.
