I had been most excited when the new Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks from Bourjois were launched in March this year. They seemed so good, and I wanted them so badly. I waited, and waited, but these did not appear in the Bourjois store in my city (though these have been released at a few places in India). I was sorely disappointed. So while planning this trip, I was determined. Come hell or high water, I had to lay my hands on these beauties. When I saw these at a store in UK, I was so delighted. These looked extremely pretty and were available in 8 shades. Though I wanted to pick up all eight of them, I restricted myself to four. I think, many of you must also have heard about these, and a few had requested me to review these. So here comes my review of these Bourjois Rouge Velvet Edition Lipsticks. I am reviewing it in the shade “02 Frambourjoise” today.
Exclusive formula: Matte finish and incredibly light. Rouge Edition Velvet by Bourjois is the new era of lipsticks. An amazing, irresistible formula. Its soft, melting texture glides on to the lips and turns into a matte, velvety and incredibly light colour. Lips are left smooth and soft as velvet. Enriched with evanescent oils, it’s incredibly sensuous formula provides a soft, second-skin feel, without drying or fading lips.

My Experience with Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick – 02 Frambourjoise:
Although these have been termed as lipsticks, these are not the traditional variant which comes in a stick form. These are packaged as lip glosses, but do not have that glossy, shiny, shimmery or less pigmentation as a lip gloss does. These are the most beautiful, wonderful lipsticks in an applicator form, which I have come across till date.
The lipstick comes in a transparent, plastic square shaped tube, closed with a colored lid, which makes it easy to determine the shade inside. The lid also holds a simple doe foot sponge applicator for precise application. The shade name is also mentioned on the tube.
The shade “Frambourjoise” is a beautiful raspberry shade, which on lips translates as a subtle red with pink undertones. Indeed, it is such a pretty color, that one can wear it at day as well as night time. The doe applicator makes it easy to apply on the lips. It applies smoothly on the lips; a bit streaky on the first swipe, but gives complete coverage on two swipes, which immediately settles down to a powdery finish. You can also apply just one swipe, and then spread it on your lips with your finger for a pretty day time look.
The pigmentation is intense, with excellent color payoff. It does not feather, nor bleed. It feels moisturising and shiny for the first 5-10 minutes, and then settles down to a complete soft, matte, velvety finish. It is a very soft, light and powdery kind of matte lipstick, which does not sit on lip lines or exaggerate them at all. Even after it sets, it never, ever feels dry on the lips.
It stains the lips completely, and does not feel heavy on the lips at all. In fact, it does not feel like you have put on a lipstick at all. You can actually forget about it for the rest of the day. It is completely transfer resistant. Although the shine will become dull after a few hours, the stain remains intact. I have tested it for 12 hours, with breakfast, lunch and snacks in between, and it has not budged from its place at all. I have taken a shower, and have come out with the stain intact. The color may start looking a bit dull, but you can always reapply it, without going overboard.
After one swipe:
After two swipes:
It does not change its color or darken after application (yes L’oreal, I am looking at you). It does not dry out the lips during the entire time it stays, and also after its removal. It does not have any shimmer in it. The application is smooth, the smell is a bit chemical like floral (but does not stay after application) and the longevity is excellent. In fact, you will have to actually remove it at the end of the day; don’t expect it to just fade away.

Cons of Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick – 02 Frambourjoise:
- Availability in India.
- A bit on the expensive side.
- Starts looking a bit dull after a few hours.
- Smell may be off-putting for some (but it does not stay after application).
- Will have to be removed with a remover (else it will stay as a stain).
4.9/5 (only for the chemical like smell, which does not bother me, but may be off putting for some people).
