Bourjois Smokey Eyes Palette in Baroque Review

Hey Girls!! I’m back with yet another review on an eye shadow palette!! This time I’m reviewing the Bourjois Smokey Eyes palette in Baroque (02). When I got this palette I was really obsessed with the smoky eye makeup and when I saw this palette, I loved the colors. The bronzed green colors were quite different and I was allured!

Product Description and Packaging:

This palette comes in a black round pot with a partly transparent lid through which one can see the colors. It comes with a double sided sponge applicator which is too short and has a space for only your finger and the thumb to fit in. Becomes a bit uncomfortable while applying, so I prefer using a brush! It has a little button to press and open the pot.

My Review on this Palette:

As I mentioned above the palette has three shades and I would like to talk about them separately.

• Golden Yellow – This color is primarily golden with a little hint of yellow and loads of shimmer. According to the description on the bottom of the pot this color is for highlighting the area under your brows. It is fairly pigmented and gives a really good sheen. I’m happy with this one.

• Bronze – This color has green and golden hint which makes it looks quite close to the bronze color. As per the description on the pot, this color is for the crease area. This is the weakest color in the whole palette and the one I’m most dissatisfied with. Poorly pigmented, doesn’t show up on the eye lids very well. So thumbs down….

• Bronzed-Green – This has a lot of green with a hint of bronze and is a beautiful color to create smoky eyes! Pigmentation is pretty good. As per the description on the pot it goes on all over the lid. However, this color neither can create the desired smoky eyes if used alone nor with the two other colors in the palette. I use this in combination with the colors from my other palettes and it works pretty well! So I’m kind of ok with this one.

Texture: The texture is really good; it has a very little fall out. It’s very smooth and silky.

Usage: I got this palette to use it for parties and weddings that happens at night. When used according the description given, it looks muddy and messy. As per me, it doesn’t give me the smokey eye effect I wanted from this palette. The colors have too much of shimmer which actually hinders in creating the look and reflects light making it look worse!

Lasting Power: 6 hours and more

Pros:

  •  Nice Packaging
  •  Unique colors
  •  Texture
  •  Lasting power

Cons:

  •  Poor pigmentation when applied together
  •  Looks muddy rather than smokey
  •  Too short applicator
  •  Price not justified with quality
  •  Too much shimmer

Will I buy it again?
Never!! I still use the two shades from this palette with other colors, preferable matte to tone down the shimmer, however, still not much of a use. Very disappointed! 🙁

Rating: 2.5/5
In short, this palette has given me a lesson of not going with just the swatches, there might be a lot of difference in the way it looks on your hand and on your eyes.

Hope you girls like review and I’ll be back again with some more very soon!!!! Stay happy and beautiful!! 😀

  1. I used to have this palette and I was quite okay with it. Somehow as an overall palette I feel it does not do justice, you have to pair it up with matte colors to bring out real shades. also these are baked shadows so you need to scrape the top a bit or use a hard brush to get the real pigmentation from the shadows. Hope this helps.

altough have to agree not the best ones around except a few shades in the range.

I quite liked the greens in the palette though.:))
