IMBB Sponsored Product Review
Hope you all are enjoying the onset of spring as much as me! Today, I will be reviewing Buxom’s lip Tarnish in Busted, a gorgeous bright cherry red lip color, that’s perfect for spring. Sounds interesting? Then read on!
According to Sephora, this product will “take your lip color to the next level with this stick’s tingling sensation and plumping effect. It tints like a stain, shines like a gloss, and moisturizes like a balm, leaving lips soft and supple thanks to an infusion of emollients and vitamin E. A built-in sharpener keeps your creamy pencil perfectly prepped.” It comes in seven different shades and Busted is described as a Cherry Red.

My Experience with Buxom Full On Lip Tarnish in Busted:
I am a lipstick traditionalist. Until now, I have mostly used lipstick that comes in a tube. If you have noticed lately, there’s a major trend in beauty companies, NARS and Clinique come immediately to mind, to package their lipsticks in a jumbo stick form. I’m lazy and super busy most of the time and like two-in-one and three-in-one products. This stick is a five in one product – it’s supposed to work as a lipstick, liner, gloss, chap stick and lip stain. I decided to put this to test and see how well it works in each of these roles.
This product is a dream to apply. It glides easily on the lips to deliver an even coverage. The texture feels a little like creamy wax and is closer to that of very soft chap stick than lipstick. I have always used this without a lip liner and it doesn’t bleed. Because the texture is so smooth and creamy, I don’t experience any feathering either. It also feels very light on the lips. I don’t have to use a chapstick under this and it does a pretty good job at keeping my lips moisturized. It gives lips this minty, tingly sensation when applied, as a lot of plumpers do, which goes away after a few minutes. It’s a slight sensation and not particularly bothersome and the minty feeling is actually quite refreshing.
This gives a medium coverage to the lips, but I have found it can be layered for a more opaque finish. I have pretty pigmented lips and I like products that are full coverage, so I usually wear more than a layer of this at a time. The feel is smooth and non-stick and the finish is glossy without being shimmery or glittery. The glossy finish lasts about 3 hours on me before it starts to wear off. After that, it leaves a really pretty cherry stain on my lips that lasts through the day. The gloss does transfer easily on to food and drink, but the stain doesn’t budge.
I did not experience any lip plumping effect with this. The glossy-ness does contribute, very slightly, to making lips look fuller. But frankly, it’s barely noticeable. I think for people who are a little older, this might do a good job of filling in lip lines and creating the illusion of fullness, but for myself, I won’t count this as a plumping product. What really works for me is the shade. I have a pet peeve – I don’t like wearing lip gloss in the daytime. I know, it’s weird, but I find it a little bit tacky. What I love about this is that I can get nice, shiny lips for the day time without looking overdone. It’s also a very wearable red that is super easy to carry and is universally flattering.
I have talked quite some about what this product is, but let me address what it isn’t. This product is in no way a substitute for lip liner, lipstick, lip plumper and a gloss. You can never achieve the finish you get when you use those products together by solely using this. However, if you’re looking for easy glamour, this is the product for you. It gives lips a nice defined look and color that lasts a good amount of time in one step. I won’t recommend just wearing this for an event, but it’s perfect for work or even an evening out. I have worn it to work a lot and love that I can rock a red without raising eyebrows 🙂
As much as I love the convenience of a sharpener attached to the product, I hate the mess it creates. This does not sharpen pretty. It’s soft and gets all over the place. Also, I haven’t been able to achieve the pointed tip that you see in the pictures once I sharpened this myself. That really makes precise application on the lips a little harder. It’s not a major issue for me, but it’s certainly something that could be improved. Overall, I would buy this product again, mainly because it makes my life a little bit easier and prettier!
