How are you doing today? I am back again to share my love for orange – red lip colors. I know, I have been obsessed with such shades, and it has become so hard to get some other shade. 😛 So gals, this shade “Wildfire” is a matte variant from Buxom’s new launch. After some hits and some misses from their satin finish lipsticks, I went ahead to try their matte finish products and to be on safe side, I picked up this gorgeous orange red shade. I am not sure if I love it as I own similar matte gel lipstick, Urban Decay Matte Temper Matte Revolution Lipstick. So, let’s see what makes it different!
What it is:
A lightweight gel lipstick with bold, one-stroke color in matte and satin finishes.
What it does:
Swipe lips with this vividly graphic, ultra-bold lipstick. It delivers intensely pigmented, one-stroke color in an ultra-lightweight gel formula. Featuring moisturizing matte and satin finishes, it leaves lips with a modern, daring look.

My Experience with Buxom Matte Wildfire Big and Sexy Bold Gel Lipstick:
As we have discussed in the review of Rebel Rose too, these gel lipsticks are certainly bigger in shape than usual round bullets. The matte finish lipsticks come in matte black bullet case with magnetic closure cap. I find it tough to select my shades often especially if we own many of these lipsticks since all the matte & satin finish bullets look alike unless we look at the color coded base. Over all, I find them quite user friendly and travel friendly.
The matte shade “Wildfire” is described as a matte orange – red which is pretty true! It comes up as a perfect blend of orange-red color on my lips. As I already confessed, I have special corner in my heart for such orange-reds that instantly brighten up my pale skin tone. I find it perfect for every pale/light/fair/medium Indian skin toned beauty. I have realized that these orange-reds lip colors work so well with our black, white, purple and orange-red dresses.
Now, the texture of this matte lipstick might be a charm for few while being a slight disappointment for many matte lovers. The reason is that it is not a true matte shade and deposits a rather creamy finish that eventually turns semi matte. Personally, I also love creamy matte shades more than true matte shades as they give a youthful finish and not highlight our lip lines or crevices that looks harsh or add years to our face.
So, it is a pleasant surprise so far to discover a creamy matte shade in this matte range of buxom bold gel lipsticks. But now that I have tried Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks and I own nearly similar shade “Temper” from that range which almost gives me lightweight, gel finish. So, I feel this “Wildfire” is comparatively less appealing. I mean, I do get a lightweight, semi-matte finish with intense color pay off on my lips, but I can see a powdery deposition on lips upon layering the color. That does not happen with the Urban Decay range.
While I say that it seems less appealing to me, I do not mean that it is anywhere less in quality than the Urban Decay one. It has a smooth texture though it may tug a bit while gliding on our lips. But, it won’t aggravate or highlight our lip flaws. It smartly covers minor dry patches and lip lines being a matte shade which is pretty impressive. Even though I can see a teeny bit of deposition on my lip patches upon closer look. This also explains that it would be suitable for slightly pigmented lips while beauties with deeper lip pigmentation might have to conceal their flaws.
I mean, for me two swipes are enough to get nearly an opaque finish with intense color payoff while I see that attempting more than two swipes tends to give a powdery deposition on lips which may look uneven or cakey. But, it’s again personal choice how we want to carry this lipstick. I feel that it will work perfect on well scrubbed and moisturized lips being a matte shade. Considering its creamy matte texture, I also see that it does not unnecessarily dry out my lips nor do I find a need of using a lip balm with this shade.
It stays for good 7-8 hours on my lips and survives light meals while it might fade off from the centre after one heavy meal and may require touch ups as the remnants of the color on lip lines look pretty gross. But, it’s fine as it happens with any matte shade after several hours; nothing to be concerned about. In fact, there are times when it stayed for 8+ hours on my lips with slight fading but it never accentuated my lip lines. I never find the need to use a lip liner with this shade as it does not bleed or simply sit on our lips.
I will definitely recommend it to everyone and I hope you know my verdict also that personally I might prefer getting Urban Decay’s Temper again over this shade, but nevertheless it is really worth the price!
Let’s sum up pros and cons:
Pros of Buxom Matte Wildfire Big and Sexy Bold Gel Lipstick:
• Such a creamy, matte, bright orange-red shade with lightweight gel finish
• It deposits nearly 85% color on lips upon first swipe while I need a second swipe to even out the finish and to intensify the color
• It does not look cakey or layered though it does not seem like second skin on my lips
• It completely conceals light pigmentation on lips with 1-2 swipes while deeper pigmentation will require more than 2 swipes to get completely opaque coverage
• It may tug a bit, but it does not sit on top of our dry patches or lip lines
• Being a creamy matte lipstick, it does not dry out the lips
• It stays for as long as 8 hours or even more
• As long as it stays on my lips, I don’t feel dryness or a need of using a lip balm
• It does not highlight my lip lines like other matte shades
• Quite attractive, user friendly and travel friendly packaging
Cons of Buxom Matte Wildfire Big and Sexy Bold Gel Lipstick:
• I can see an uneven, powdery deposition upon closure look
• It is not a true matte shade which might be a turn off for matte lovers
Well honestly, as I already said, I find it less impressive since I have a great Urban Decay ;lipstick which is quite similar to this one. I love the subtle, translucent finish more than creamy deposits hence I prefer the Urban Decay lipsticks over the Buxom Matte lipsticks. But, I would love to try other matte shades from this range as I like this Wildfire’s texture and who knows, I might get surprised by other shades!
