How to Calculate Body Mass Index (BMI)

Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both men and women. It gives an indication of whether a person is overweight, underweight or at a healthy weight for his/her height.

To use the body mass index (BMI) chart, find the appropriate height (in inches) in the left-hand column labeled Height. Move across to a given weight (in pounds). If you do not find your weight on the first chart, please consult the following table. The number at the top of the column is the BMI at that height and weight. Pounds have been rounded off.
