Canmake Gokubuto Mascara Review

What are your recommendations on beauty products available in India? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Coming back to the post, today I am reviewing a Canmake mascara. It’s strange that I have tried so many products from Canmake, but never a Canmake mascara! I got this after I ran out of my Kate mascara, which will always have a special place in my heart. Let’s see how this one fared.

My Thoughts On Canmake Gokubuto Mascara:

Packaging:
This mascara comes in a pink cylindrical tube with the name of the mascara in silver writing. Silver seems to be a very popular font colour for lot of Japanese products.

Formula:
The formula is creamy and wet. It has been about 2 months since I bought this product, and it is still the same consistency (some mascaras keep drying as time goes by). I wish the consistency was a bit drier. Some mascaras might harden your lashes, but this doesn’t do that at all. Also, once you apply it, it won’t transfer to the skin around the lashes. Does it hold the curl? Oh God no! My eyelashes droop as soon as I put one coat! This part is very frustrating! So often, I don’t bother curling my lashes at all before putting this on.

Wand/Bristles:
The wand has a very interesting shape; it is skinny in the middle but goes straight down from there. It gets a bit thicker, about 1/4 of the way down. The bristles are not extremely densely packed for it to give the lashes volume. It also makes for the application process to be quite easy and smooth. You don’t need to work very hard to get definition.

Is it volumising or lengthening?
Since it clumps when you layer the mascara, it does not do a great job at volumising. Also, it does not build on itself very well because the formula is a bit wet.

It does not claim to be lengthening mascara, but I find that, it really does a good job of separating the lashes. If you build it up, you can get good amount of volume, but beware, as I said before, doing so will make the lashes clumpy. If that happens, try combing the lashes out with a clean applicator (before the formula dries) and that should do the trick. I prefer putting on just 2 coats and that does an OK job at volumising and good job at lengthening and separating.

Ease of removal/is it waterproof?
As it claims, it is indeed waterproof but will come off with warm/hot water. This makes it so easy to remove at the end of the day when you don’t want to fuss around with a lot of products and keep straining your eyes. I use it for everyday and it holds up nicely. If you get caught in the rain without an umbrella, you don’t have to worry about your mascara. It is not going anywhere.

Does it live up to its claims?
This claim of the mascara being able to “cast aside the image of film-type mascaras as being unable to maintain a great curl” just makes me giggle! It absolutely does not. It doesn’t do a great job at volumising either.

Pros of Canmake Gokubuto Mascara:

• Waterproof.
• Film-type, that is, comes off with hot/warm water – easy to remove.
• Lengthens and separates well.
• Does not transfer to the skin surrounding the lashes.
• Does not flake.
• Easy to apply.
• Inexpensive.

Cons of Canmake Gokubuto Mascara:

• Does not hold curl.
• Lashes clump if layered.
• Formula is a little too wet.
• Not very volumising.

Would I Repurchase Canmake Gokubuto Mascara?

I don’t think I will be repurchasing this because holding curl and volumising are the most important factors for me, which this mascara doesn’t deliver.
