How to Care for Eyes

Blindfold, dark room, catch me if you can. No no I am not listing the movies here. I just want to ask do you remember these games. Well I am sure you do. They were so much fun isn’t it? Trying to catch others without being able to see a thing.

Well, for some unfortunate ones this is the reality of life. I just shiver to even think how a person can spend his life in a virtual dark room, where he can just hear voices and see nothing.

Our vision is the most important gift that we get from nature. Most important and most neglected I should say. I guess it is a human tendency to overlook all the vital things that require much more attention.

Though we all are well aware of the need to take care of our eyes yet, at times, we choose to ignore it knowingly or unknowingly. Here are few points that we should always follow to keep enjoying the beauties of life.

Some do’s and don’ts of eye care:

• The first and foremost is to have a healthy diet. A good diet is essential to avoid health problems. Fruits and vegetables are loaded with various essential nutrients which keep health problems at bay. Yellow vegetables are very effective in keeping eye problems away from us.
Avoid rubbing your eyes frequently.
Wear sunglasses as these are more than just another fashion accessory. But always keep in mind to check for UVA and UVB protection before buying sunglasses. A rating of 100 percent protection is a must after all it is about your eyes. Strength of UV sunglasses can be checked by following these few basic steps:
1. If you can see your eyes through the lens then they are too light to block the UVA and UVB rays.
2. Hold it in front of yourself and look at the lens. If the tint of the whole lens is not uniform then the UV protection is not identical for the whole eye.
Quit smoking for the sake of your eyes. Smoking increases the risk of optic nerve damage and cataract.
Blink your eyes frequently to avoid the condition of dry eyes.
Drink plenty of water to avoid swelling around the eyes.
Avoid staring at your computer screen for long. Always give the much needed break to your eyes. If possible install an anti-glare filter to give some relief to your eyes.

Go for regular eye checkups. People suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes should visit the doctor more frequently than others. They have a greater chance of contracting retinopathy.
• Boil ½ tsp fennel seeds in 1 cup of water. Let it cool and then use it as eye drop.
• Put a drop of honey in each eye once a week. It is a great way to clean your eyes completely.

Some eye exercises:

Here are some simple exercises that will help you to relax your tired and heavy eyes.

• Keep your head still and rotate your eye balls clockwise and anti clockwise 25 times each. eye care
