Carex Aloe Vera Antibacterial Hand Gel

My husband is a hygiene freak, whether it be personal hygiene or in and around the house. He likes everything to be clean. When we are out traveling, he is even more finicky about hygiene and that’s why a hand sanitizer is always to be found in our travel bag, be it a small picnic, or a long journey or even a day out somewhere.

Currently, we are using the Carex range of hand gels. Carex is a well-known name in UK. Back in early 90’s, they were the first ones to launch anti-bacterial liquid hand washes in UK. So, any personal hygiene products with the Carex label are considered to be good.

They have four variants in their hand gel range at the moment:

1. Aloe vera anti-bacterial hand gel.
2. Sensitive alcohol gel.
3. Moisturising hand gel.
4. Hand sanitizer for kids.

Today, I will review the Aloe vera anti-bacterial gel, for that has been a companion in all our travels in the last few months.

Price:

50 ml for £1.00 and 200ml for £2.50. Savings if you buy in bulk. The smaller one is perfect for carrying around while the larger pack can be used in the home.

What The Product Claims:

The hand gel helps to prevent the spread of germs that can cause illness. These gels have high ethanol content and as we all know, ethanol is very effective against bacteria like E.coli and Staph.auerus. It has been proven to kill 99.9% bacteria in less than 15 seconds.

My Experience With Carex Aloe Vera Antibacterial Hand Gel:

The 50 ml bottle is sturdy with a squirt top. It can easily be carried in your travel kit, purse or even your pocket. The bottle says – 100 applications per bottle. I am not sure of this though :), one because I have never counted the number of times I have used it and secondly, it depends on how much you use per application.

I find that just a couple of squirts are enough to cover your hands completely with the gel. The gel is pale green in colour (guess they wanted to draw home the fact that it has aloe) and has a liquidy consistency. Because of its high alcohol content, you can actually smell the alcohol as you squirt the gel onto your palm, but the gel dries instantly – very very quick and it doesn’t leave any sticky feeling at all. You won’t even realise that you applied anything on your palms. Once dried, the smell of alcohol is gone too and what you are left with is a mild pleasant smell of aloe. As you apply the gel onto your palms, you can feel that cool and refreshing feeling.

I am not sure if it actually kills 99.9% bacteria as they claim, but I am ready to take their word for it 🙂 after all they have been in this business for so long.

Pros of Aloe Vera Antibacterial Hand Gel:

– Very easy to carry around – lightweight and a handy bottle.
– Dries very quickly.
– Alcohol smell disappears quickly and a mild aloe smell lingers on for some time.
– Reasonably priced (more so when you buy multiple quantity).
– No need for water (can be used anywhere any time).

Cons of Aloe Vera Antibacterial Hand Gel:

– Some may not like the alcohol smell.
– The gel is a little runny.
– Palms may dry a bit if you have naturally dry skin.

Rating and Verdict:

4 out of 5. Yes, I will buy it again.
