Catrice Cosmetics 50 Upside Brown Ultimate Shine Gel Lip Colour Review

Hey everyone,

I’m back with yet another lipstick review from the brand Catrice. This time, it’s from the Ultimate Shine Gel Colour range and as you can already make out from the name, it’s the glossy range of lipsticks from the brand. The shade that I’m going to review is 050 Upside Brown. So let’s check it out.

My Experience with Catrice 50 Upside Brown Ultimate Shine Gel Colour Lipstick:

The lipstick comes in a shiny, silver metallic cylindrical case. The case is similar to the Ultimate Colour range with the only difference lying in the colour of the cases as the latter has a glossy black case. The shade name and number are mentioned on a shade indicating sticker which is attached to the base of the lipstick case. The lipstick click locks satisfactorily and can easily be carried around.

It has a yummy vanilla fragrance to it which greets me the moment I open the case and I soooo enjoy sniffing on it.
The shade 50 Upside brown is a beautiful reddish brown shade which I totally love on my NC42 complexion. It looks a boring brown in the tube but on the lips it magically transfers to a reddish/pinkish brown. The shade is a breeze to carry off and is yet again a shade that would look great on all complexions, all ages, all occasions and with any sort of makeup. This is the sort of shade that I can wear to work regularly without much thinking and this would add just the desired amount of colour on the face without looking washed out. Personally, I hate wearing out and out nude shades as I really feel washed out and they fail to give me the beautiful feeling that I usually get after wearing a lippie. This lipstick to me is the complete balance between a neutral and a bright colour.

The texture of this lippie, as is very evident from the name, is super creamy and glossy. It’s reallllyyyyyy saucy and glides like melted butter on the lips. One can very easily skip the balm with this one on. It is super hydrating on the lips and I sooooo love the way it makes my lips look. I’m generally a fan of matte lipsticks but this range has made me fall in love with glossy lipsticks. Indeed chapped lips are a thing of the past (as the claim puts it) and I so enjoy the luscious feeling in my lips. The moisturising property of this lippie however has a downside to it. The bullet has already started to melt in this humid weather of Kolkata and I always need to store it in the fridge. I had a tough time clicking the pics as I had to be very careful about the delicate condition of the bullet. Even while applying the lippie I always use a brush and never bring out the entire bullet.

As the claims read, the pigmentation of these lipsticks is on the sheerer side but it is quite build-able and with a good 2-3 swipes I can achieve a full coverage which I like. Being a semi-sheer lippie is quite a boon for college goers or for people who are starting off with makeup, as they can decide on the intensity of the colour and layer up accordingly.

The staying power of this lippie is however not that great. Being a glossy lippie it fades off in 2 hours and reapplication becomes a must post any meal. Further, it transfers crazily to everything my lips touch which is very annoying.

    1. Hey Tiya I’m so sorry to tell you that Catrice Cosmetics are really tough to find in India…maybe you could check out the online sites like Amazon and another alternative for this particular shade could be the shade Raisinette from Chambor. Both have a similar texture but Chambor is a tad darker than this one. Hope I could help 🙂
