Caudalie Fleur De Vigne Shower Gel Review

Caudalie Fleur De Vigne Shower Gel Review

I love everything French. French Cuisine, language and best of all French beauty brands. I love the exquisite, difficult to pronounce names as well as the delicate fragrances. I have used many brands but even if we leave out the high-end range, L’occitane, Nuxe from the mid range and Bioderma, La Rosey Posay, Avene and Uriage from the pharmacy range make some of my favourite products ever. I would like to review a product from the French brand Caudalie today and this is my first purchase even though I have been eyeing the dry body oil for some time now (I have to finish up my TBS as well as the Victoria’s Secret oil first).  Caudalie is featured on many youtube videos and also travel tutorials as it does make some really good travel kits. This brand is famous internationally especially for skin care and body care.

About Caudalie:

A couple Mathilde Thomas and Bertrand created the brand Caudalie after meeting professor Joseph Vercauteren who was a specialist in polyphenols.  Grape seed polyphenols are the core ingredient of most products in this range.  This brand does not contain parabens, phthalates or SLS and is biodegradable.

Product Description and Claims:

Enriched with aloe vera, this soap-free shower gel has a gentle plant-based cleansing formula that respects the skin’s physiological pH balance. Its delicate fragrance of white rose and rose pepper is reminiscent of the fleeting grape flower that only blooms for a few days in June.  For anyone who wishes to transform their shower into a time of pure relaxation using this nectar shower gel with a delicate Fleur de Vigne fragrance.

My Experience with Caudalie Fleur De Vigne Shower Gel:

This shower gel comes in a green tube with a flip top cap. It contains 200 ml of product and has flower/plant prints on it, which I think depicts a vineyard.  The product itself is a colourless clear gel. When I first sniffed it, I wasn’t overly impressed.  This is because the scent was a cross between aloe vera and a vineyard full of grapes.  This didn’t appeal to me at first as I felt it was too subtle and simple for a French brand. The gel doesn’t foam well, but point to note, this brand is SLS free.

Additionally, it also doesn’t contain parabens and phthalates. Since it doesn’t foam well, you will use quite a bit each time. After applying and washing off however, I was pleasantly surprised because most SLS free shower gels feel sticky and are difficult to wash off, but this shower gel washed off well and skin was left clean and slightly moisturized, but not sticky. I always use a shower puff just to minimize the amount I use each time. However, during showering and afterwards, I really like the fragrance which lingers on my skin.  It smells of green grapes with a subtle scent, but it is not long lasting. Since this is a soap-free formula, it will suit all skin types including sensitive skin.

Pros of Caudalie Fleur De Vigne Shower Gel:

  • Soap free, SLS, and paraben free.
  • At AUD 14, I feel this is a reasonably priced product.
  • Smells fresh and relaxing.
  • Contains aloe vera to gently cleanse and add moisture to skin.
  • Biogradable, gentle plant-based formula and is kind to earth.
  • Claudelie is against animal testing.

Cons of Caudalie Fleur De Vigne Shower Gel:

  • Fragrance might not appeal to all.
  • The tube is not travel friendly.
  • I did not smell watermelon, white rose or pink pepper as claimed; I only could smell grapes in this shower gel.

IMBB Rating:

4/5

I might not repurchase immediately, but I might move to paraben free products in a couple of years, and will try this again then (right now, I love experimenting with products and some of my favourites do contain parabens).
