My Experience with Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation:

Packaging:  This foundation comes in a frosted glass bottle with a pump. I do find the packaging quite pretty and classy and love the gold accents on the cap.
Packaging

Texture/Consistency/Blend-ability:  This foundation is quite thick and creamy. It is not runny. You do need 1 – 1 ½ pumps to cover your entire face. I do think the best way to apply this foundation is with a Beauty Blender/sponge applicator as it does set quickly hence using the damp sponge helps me blend it to a even, streak-free finish.

Coverage and Finish:  This foundation provides medium to full coverage. It evens out my skin beautifully and hides almost all of my skin imperfections like redness and some acne scars. It gives a gorgeous demi-matte finish to the skin which does not look flat, instead it looks very natural and gives you the look of perfect air-brushed skin. During the summer, I do prefer a more matte foundation because with the heat, you do perspire, which eventually makes your face greasy hence matte finish helps to counteract that. I am very pleased with this aspect of this foundation.

Shade:  I have the shade “4 Fair” which is the same shade that I had in the Light Wonder Foundation from Charlotte Tilbury. I do feel it is a great match for my MAC NW22 skin tone. It has a neutral tone – neither too yellow nor too pink.

Feel and look on skin:  This foundation sets quickly and completely on the skin without the need to powder. It leaves absolutely no tacky feeling and does not feel like it’s sitting on top of the skin. It feels very lightweight on the skin.

This foundation did feel a bit drying on my skin. I have normal- dry skin with occasional dry patches, which this foundation did seem to cling on to accentuate. I did find that moisturizing (I use the Hourglasss No 20 primer serum, which is a primer and moisturizer, works wonderfully with my dry skin) prior to using this foundation did seem to help make this foundation look a lot better on my skin. For days that I am feeling particularly dry, I will also add a drop of facial oil (I use the Cover Fx Custom Infusion Drops), and it gave a very comfortable feel on my skin. I didn’t feel the need to use powder to set this foundation, just a very light dusting of a non-mattifying powder worked for me.

This foundation did not settle into my pores and fine lines and I saw very minimal creasing along my smile lines (which is usually my problem area with most foundations).

I do think due to this quality, this foundation is best suited for normal to even combination skin and more suited for summer months when your skin is not as dry as the winter time. Even dry skin can use this, but you do have to take some extra steps to make it work for you. If you are someone with very dry skin and lots of dry flaky patches this foundation is not for you.

Staying Power:  This is quite a long-wear foundation. It wore great for 8+ hours on me with very minimal fading. It sits comfortably on my skin (provided I took all the moisturizing step prior to use or it does feel drying). It needs very little touch-up. It did not get shiny on my skin and looked just perfect.

Scent:  This foundation does have a very fresh perfume/makeup type scent. It is moderately strong but it does not linger for long.

Overall, I really like this foundation. I love the finish and the coverage and how it seems to make my skin look flawless. The only thing I do not like is that it can be a bit drying, but I can work around by including a few extra steps. It also has SPF which makes it great for day time wear but not ideal if you are going to do flash photography. I will recommend this product.

Pros of Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation:

  • Medium – full coverage.
  • Makes the skin look air brushed and flawless.
  • Does not accentuate pores or fine lines.
  • Classy packaging.
  • Gives a natural-looking demi-matte finish.
  • Feels comfortable and lightweight on the skin.
  • Long wearing.
  • I did not find the need to powder to set it or do touch ups during the day.
  • Contains SPF.

Cons of Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation:

  • Glass bottle is not very travel friendly.
  • Has a moderately strong scent.
  • Can feel a bit drying and clings to dry patches.
  • Not suitable for dry skin unless you moisturize heavily first or mix a few drops of facial oil into the foundation.
  • Sets quickly on the skin hence you have to work fast and I find the best way to apply this is with a sponge and not a brush.

  1. This is such a beautiful foundation right from the packaging to how it sets. My skin tends to get dry under makeup, and I have to use a facial oil. Loved ur review. 🙂

    1. With using a facial oil this foundation does work incredibly well.. I do really like all the things u listed about this foundation too.. its a good pick

  2. Oohh…I expected this foundation to the be epitome of perfection!! This baby has been hyped like no other!! If my favorite L’Oreal TruMatch Lumi has 5 star rating, I’d better stick to that one!! Thanks a lot for sharing your experience with us 🙂

    1. thats what the reviews here are for to help you make the right choice.
Regarding true match lumi even though it has a higer rathing ,its a complete different formula and finish hence they cant be comparable. Its quite common with matte finish foundation to feel drying hence its not a complete deal breaker if it can be worked around with
