Clarins Fix’ Make-Up Refreshing Mist Review

Hello lovely ladies,

Today’s review is on a cult product  – the Clarins Fix’ Make-Up Spray which as per the brand is a “Refreshing Mist with Long Lasting hold,” so basically, it’s a refreshing mist and the fixing spray – rolled in one. I had a tough time locating this product because Clarins India does not stock makeup products any more. Even when they did stock makeup, this product was not available with them. I finally found it in Thailand Duty Free. Looking at the size of the product and the price tag, I did have second thoughts about buying it but gave in because I had already spent so much time searching for it!

My Experience with Clarins Fix’ Make-Up Refreshing Mist:

Clarins Fix’ Make Up has a cult following and quite often features in the “top fixing spray” lists. Is it that good? Let us find out more about it 🙂

1. The first thing which hits you when you first see the product is obviously the packaging and the size of the product. The product comes packaged in a clear, slender glass bottle. Though it looks quite pretty, it’s a nightmare to travel with. You can’t possibly be tossing in a glass bottle into your bag!
2. The second concern with the product is the size – for more than 2K, you are getting 30 ml of product  – not the most bang for your buck – right?
3. Since we are discussing packaging, let me also address another aspect of the packaging which isn’t really visible to the naked eye and that is the pump of the packaging. For a product which needs to go onto the face post makeup has already been applied, you need to have it dispensing an extremely fine mist. The perfect example of this is the MAC Fix Plus Spray. It dispenses an extremely fine mist so much so that I have had makeup enthusiasts advising me to not “Back 2 MAC” an empty bottle and use it to spray rose mist or something instead because the dispenser is just so great. Coming back to the Clarins Fix’ Make Up – it’s not the finest of sprays. This itself becomes a cause of concern. Needless to say, on days that I want my makeup to remain impeccable, I will reach for my UD setting spray and not this one.

So, a plethora of concerns with the packaging itself and we have yet to discuss the actual product:

4. The product gets dispensed from a spray nozzle onto your skin. First thing which hits you is the fragrance. I kind of like it; however, for someone not okay with fragrance in skin care, this part will be a deal breaker.
5. Moving on to efficacy of the product – Honestly, I did not feel a remarkable change in the stay of my makeup. Yes, it does prolong wear but for just about an hour or so. It isn’t like UD’s setting spray which literally makes your makeup stay for the entire day.

6. Also, the glycerin in the product, kind of leaves a slightly sticky residue on top. No, not what you want when you are looking for a flawless finish to your makeup.
7. The spray works well as a setting spray instead. It allows the products already applied to your skin to sit well on your skin and make the whole look less powdery.
8. Lastly, I don’t feel that the product has given any skincare benefits. Honestly, this aspect is difficult to evaluate since the product goes onto your skin over layers of makeup. However, it has never broken me up, so that’s a good sign, right?

Bottom line – not really bang for your buck!

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Clarins Fix’ Make-Up Refreshing Mist:

  • Lightweight texture.
  • Works well as a setting spray to remove powderiness on the face.
  • Pleasant fragrance.
  • Does not break me out.
  • Non-comedogenic texture.

Cons of Clarins Fix’ Make-Up Refreshing Mist:

  • Glass bottle is not ideal for travelling.
  • The pump dispenser does not give a fine mist.
  • The feel is a tad bit sticky.
  • Does not really prolong the wear time of makeup too much – just about an hour or so.

IMBB Rating:
2/5.
Would I Recommend/Repurchase Clarins Fix’ Make-Up Refreshing Mist?
Nope, I am not re-purchasing nor am I recommending!

Question? Why would this have a cult following? Why is it touted amongst the best? Honestly, I don’t know the answer to this. I am not being fussy. All I can think of is that when this product came out, there were probably not many products in this category in the market, especially in the premium segment. So, it’s probably like folklore. Now, with actually effective setting sprays easily available in the market and we have tried those, this definitely doesn’t live up to the hype!
