Clean and Clear Oil Control Film vs The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues

I have oily skin which gets oilier in the monsoon and these two products are HG products for me. Though I love both of them, I’m going to compare them using various factors. I’ll refer to the Clean and Clear Oil Control Film as CC and the Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues as TBS.

Both these products can be used to blot off excess oil from the face. Both do not remove makeup. They are approximately the same size, around 7.5 cm by 5.4 cm.

Price:
Clean and Clear Oil Control Film – Rs 180 for 60 sheets
The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues – Rs 175 for 65 sheets, got it at 10% discount during the ongoing sale, so paid Rs. 158

Clean and Clear Oil Control Film vs The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues

Availability:
Clean and Clear Oil Control Film –I bought this a year ago at a Health and Glow outlet. I haven’t seen it in any shop after I bought it, the one I have is made and imported from Japan. I have not seen this with the other Clean and Clear products in supermarkets and shops, so it may not be available easily.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues –– Available at all Body Shop outlets.

Packaging:

Both come in a cardboard packaging from which you can remove the sheets by lifting open a flap. I prefer the TBS packaging, it is more sturdy, compact and convenient. It looks more attractive too.

Also, the CC packaging has the words “Clean & Clear” and “oil control film” written in big font. I usually use these from my desk at work, when I can feel my skin getting oily and I don’t have the time to go to the washroom and do touchups. So, I prefer the cute and discreet TBS packaging which does not announce in big letters what it is 🙂

Clean and Clear Oil Blotting Sheets
Look and feel:

Clean and Clear Oil Control Film–
These are powder blue (like the Indian cricket team uniforms) colored opaque sheets. They have a very silky feel to them and do not feel like paper. They do not tear even if you pull at them very hard, even if you want to tear them into smaller pieces for some reason.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues– These feel like tracing paper. They are translucent with a slight green tinge. If you swipe your face with these instead of blotting, they may catch on to the oil on your face and tear.
Clean and Clear Oil Blotting Sheets

Fragrance:
Clean and Clear Oil Control Film- These have a mild fragrance that is common to the Clean and Clear range.
The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues-Very mild tea tree oil scent, barely noticeable.

Skin type:
Clean and Clear Oil Control Film – Suitable for all skin types
The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues– Suitable for all skin types, especially blemished skin

Ingredients:
Clean and Clear Oil Control Film- The ingredient list is not printed on the paper packaging, though this came in another plastic packet which may have had them, don’t remember. Anyway, I got them from the website.

Dimethylbenzylidene, Mineral Oil, Polypropylene, Sorbitol, Ultramarines

The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues- Strangely, the ingredients on the The Body Shop India website are not the same as the ones on my pack. The ones on my pack are

Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil (Tea tree leaf oil), Callophyllum Inophyllum Seed oil (Tamanu seed oil), Limonene, Citral, Leptospermum Petersonii oil (Lemon tea tree oil), Linalool, Tocopherol.

The ingredients in the The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues are anti-blemish, natural and community trade. I prefer these to the ingredients in the Clean and Clear Oil Control Film.

Usage and effectiveness:

Even though you need to blot your face with these tissues, sometimes I forget and swipe them across my forehead or nose like I would do with a wet tissue.  The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissuesusually tear when I do this and become very difficult to use when torn. Nothing happens to the Clean and Clear Oil Control Film sheets.

I used one sheet on each side of my face to see if there was any difference. I couldn’t tell any difference in the oil absorbing capabilities. However, when the Clean and Clear Oil Control Film sheets absorb oil, they turn from opaque blue to transparent, so you can see when the sheet’s oil absorbing capacity is used up. The TBS tissues turn from translucent to slightly more transparent, but you can’t tell easily unless you observe closely.

If I had to choose between the two, I would go for the The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues as they are suitable for blemished skin, which I have. I had been using the Clean and Clear oil control film very sparingly as I could not find them in any stores before I found the TBS tissues, but now I can use the TBS ones as often as I like.

My rating:

Clean and Clear Oil Control film – :star::star::star::star: + 0.5

The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues –  :star::star::star::star::star: 🙂

Overall, I think both these products are really convenient to carry in your purse. They are not expensive and do a great job in getting rid of excess oil and giving a matte look without adding a layer of powder on the face. I have been using the Clean and Clear Oil Control Film ones but will switch to TBS after they get over, as I prefer the ingredients and packaging of the The Body Shop Tea Tree Blotting Tissues tissues.

  1. hey sunayana, i hv never come across thse btolling paper. as TBS is nt not present here wil pick up from the C&C range soon.. thx 😀

  2. I have tried both .. and like you .. I have extremely oily T zone !
But I found Clean and Clear better .. it gives me mental satisfaction when I see the powder blue turning transparent :rotfl:
And Clean and Clear is a tad bit cheaper .. I just got it recently and it was some 120 odd bucks ..
Don’t know why yours is sooo expensive 🙁
.-= Palak´s last blog ..Make up in monsoons =-.

    1. Ooh could be, I bought it a couple of years ago, maybe I have forgotten the price. Haven’t seen it around after that. Also, mine is made in Japan 😛

Yes I agree with you on the mental satisfaction part :-)) Tea tree products have worked well for my acne, so I prefer the TBS ones.

  3. I have been using the facial blot tissue from the Body shop and I really love it. Think it´s perfect, not expensive, and do exactly what it is supposed to do. There are other facial blot tissues, like Shiseido, for example, but if you compare price and effect, they all do the same, so i choose the body shop.
    Love from Camila, Brazil.
