My Experience with Clinique 01 Curvy Contour Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour:
Let’s begin with the packaging of the product. The cream contour comes in the form of big fat retractable chubby stick. The twist up base works very smoothly. The stick is color-coded and has a silver base and cap. The large cap fits nicely but does not make any click or something while closing. So, it’s necessary to fit the cap nicely, else it may come off while carrying around. The stick bears the brand’s tagline along with the shade name written on it in silver fonts. This chubby stick comes housed in a regular white and green colored Clinique packaging, which bears almost all necessary details about the product like its description, ingredients list, shelf life & almost everything. Overall, the packaging is nice, sturdy & travel friendly.
Now, coming to the shade “Curvy Contour”; the contour stick comes with only one shade selection. The shade “Curvy Contour” is a shimmer free chocolate brown shade with some orange hues. I was glad to see that it is shimmer free, as I like shimmers in my highlighters only but not in my contouring shades or bronzers. But, still I wouldn’t say that it has a matte finish. It sets to a subtle sheen after a few minutes. The shade has some warmer undertones that make it fit to use as a bronzer too. The shade is suitable for fair skin tones only. The color will not show up on deeper skin tones. The biggest drawback of these chubby sticks is limited shade selection. Both the contour & highlight sticks come with only one shade. Hence, these are suitable for fair skin tones only. These will not work well on dusky skin tones. The pale pink highlighter will look silvery or whitish while this contour shade will not show up on deeper skin tones. The shape of the bullet is different & might give you a scary appearance upon applying directly from the stick, so I always prefer using a brush to apply the contour shade. I can even use my fingers to apply the product & it works well with my fingers too. The formula is decently pigmented. It gives nice color in one swipe. However, the color intensity can be built up easily by multiple swipes. It depends on your choice, whether you want a soft contouring or heavily chiseled features.
The texture of this chubby stick is something that made me fall for this. It is super creamy. It glides almost like butter & it is easily blendable. Its lovely texture makes it even more fit for beginners. Most of the times it requires a little more effort with these cream products but, it is so easy to use that you will surely fall in love with it. It blends within seconds & does not leave any harsh lines behind. The contour looks so natural that one cannot predict if you are wearing any heavy makeup. The formula is very moisturizing; it does not cling to the dry parts of the skin too. The formula is lightweight & does not give that heavy or greasy feel to the skin. But, it makes my skin a little oily after a while. So, I feel it is best suited for normal to dry skin types. I have used it a couple of times & it suits my sensitive skin pretty well. It never broke me out. It does not get patchy at all. The brand suggests using it on bare skin or with base makeup. But, I cannot use it on bare skin & I do need a proper base to hide the flaws of my face. I faced only one issue with both of these chubby sticks that I find it really difficult to work with it with my foundation as a base. It requires an extra care & effort while doing so.
I prefer setting both the highlighter & the contour stick using a loose powder to make them last long. On regular basis, the color stays on my skin for 4-5 hours with a little fading. Overall, this is a great & easy to use product for fairer skinned beauties. I love using it as a bronzer more often.
