Clinique Blended Face Powder and Brush Review

By Ishita Ray

I am a die-hard Clinique fan and most of my skincare and makeup stuff is from Clinique.  Around 1.5 years back, I experienced real bad breakouts and my search for a good loose powder landed me at the Clinique counter.  I was in search of something that would not aggravate my acne when I was on acne medication. The SA at the Clinique counter suggested this powder and since then I am hooked. Read on to know why:

Clinique+Blended+Face+Powder+and+Brush+Review

Product Description:

Clinique’s signature blended powder. Loose, lightweight texture is right for every type of skin. Sets and perfects makeup, makes pores seem to disappear. Airy, skin-hugging formula delivers a reliably flawless finish.

• Skin Types: All.
• Formula: Loose powder.
• Coverage: Sheer to Moderate.
• Benefits: Evens skin tone, wear alone or over foundation.

Price:

1600 INR (now increased to Rs. 1900) for 35 gm.

Packaging:

Clinique Loose Powder 1

It comes in a transparent jar packaging with a silver screw on the lid. The powder comes with a retractable mini brush which is quite travel friendly according to me. The jar comes with a sifter for controlled application of the product.

Ingredients:

Clinique Loose Powder 2

My only complaint with the product is that it contains Isopropyl Myristate which is a huge pore clogger and irritant and scores 5 at the pore clogging study.  I have gone through the ingredient list of Clinique Stay Matte Sheer Oil Free Powder which does not include any of the pore clogging monsters, so maybe I would pick that one next.

My Experience with Clinique Blended Face Powder and Brush:

I am in love with this powder and I have been using it for the past 2 years and will continue using it forever.  It lasts you ages and you can make that out from the images attached. Though my experience with loose powders or makeup is very limited as I panic a lot for my skin which is why I cannot compare it with the other loose powders available in market. I have sensitive skin which reacts with even the oddest of things, but never with Clinique. I started using this when I got very bad breakouts, but my breakouts never aggravated with this on.

Clinique Loose Powder 3

The powder is silky smooth and spreads effortlessly on the face making the pores look smaller.  Though I do not have open pores, but on close introspection, you can have a glimpse of them at both the sides of nose and this powder takes very good care of them making them look almost invisible. But if you have open pores problem, then it won’t work on pore tightening. It feels silky smooth on face giving you an even toned and polished visage. The coverage is sheer, so it won’t cover acne marks or any kind of pigmentation. Since I have decent skin to begin with, I just apply the powder on face and I am good to go out. My skin instantly brightens up even on a bad skin day. It does not feel cakey at all and stays on me very easily for 6-7 hours.

Does it control oil?

I have sensitive-combination-oily skin in summers, which gets dry in winters.  In summer months, it does control oil to some great extent, let say for 6-7 hours, but if you have very oily skin, you need to use a mattifying powder. I do not like to have the lifeless dry matte look, so this powder works wonders for me.

The SA suggested 08( Transparency Neutral) which is pretty close to my skin tone.  If you do not find the match for you, it should not be bothering due to its sheer coverage.

The Brush:

Clinique Brush

The brush is very apt for travelling purpose which comes in a retractable packaging. The brush is pretty useless to me as it is scratchy and sheds a lot. People with sensitive skin might find it pretty harsh on the skin, so I use The Body Shop Face and body brush to apply my Clinique Powder.

Pros of Clinique Blended Face Powder and Brush:

  • Amazing quality, never looks cakey.
  • Controls oil to some great extent without giving the flat matte look.
  • Evens out skin if you do not have much to conceal.
  • Pores look smaller.
  • Instantly brightens up skin.
  • Comes with a retractable cute brush.
  • Allergy tested.
  • 100% fragrance free, which is great for sensitive skin.
  • The quantity provided is a whopping 35 gm, which would last you for ages

Cons of Clinique Blended Face Powder and Brush:

  • Won’t control oil for long if you have very oily skin.
  • Contains Isopropyl Myristate which is a huge pore clogging ingredient and irritant.
  • Would not hide acne marks or any kind of pigmentation as the coverage is very sheer. You need to have almost perfect skin to use it alone.

Do I Recommend Clinique Blended Face Powder and Brush?

Absolutely. I cannot live without it a single day in hot summer months. An absolute delight to add in your makeup vanity case if you have normal to oily skin, but if your skin seeks some real oil control products and breaks out easily, then Clinique Stay Matte Sheer Oil free Powder would be a better choice .

Overall Rating:

4.3/5 ( deducted for containing Isopropyl Myristate and for very sheer coverage).
