Clinique Cheek Pop Blush – Plum Pop Review

Clinique Cheek Pop Blush – Plum Pop Review

I have been wanting to get my hands on these since ages…absolute ages….ever since they launched in the US. Released in 4 shades, it was so difficult to decide which colour to pick – they are all so gorgeous! I felt I needed ALL of them! But we still await their launch in India. But, finally I got to try this hyped, most-talked about product.  Let’s see how it fared on my beauty scale.

Clinique Cheek Pop Blush – Plum Pop

Product Details:

Vibrant yet natural-looking cheek colour that looks virtually powderless. In a silky smooth, stay-true formula with shades for every skin tone. That just-pinched look, simply effortless.

How To Use:

  • Swirl colour onto brush and sweep over apples of cheeks.
  • Gently blend colour up towards cheekbones and temple.
  • Reapply to build to desired brightness.

Price:

USD $21 / AED 121 (about INR 2000).  Supposed to launch in India @ INR 1800 for 3.5 gm.

Packaging:

The product comes packaged in neat transparent plastic with a flip open cap. The beautiful daisy is so vividly pretty in the packaging – absolutely stunningly gorgeous. There is no applicator or mirror. So touch-up on the go is not an option. Though the packaging is small enough to be dropped into the bag. The transparent packaging ensures you are able to find your shade if you have more than one of these.

My Experience with Clinique Cheek Pop Blush – Plum Pop:

Color:  As per the Clinique site, the shade belongs to the colour group of violets. However, to me, it seemed fairly pink with obvious blue undertones. I wanted this to pair with my cool pinks and violet lipsticks.

On the fairer, cool-toned skin, this would look fab. For warmer skin tones, it would still look good, but the lip pairing has to be correct.  The colour is satin finish – not matte or shimmer – something perfectly in between.

Texture:  Finely milled, smooth and very blendable texture. It comes off easily on the brush or finger and applies naturally. It applies evenly, there is no patchiness.

Pigmentation:  Good pigmentation – it allows you to go sheer or build it to the colour in the pan. One light sweep of the brush is all you need to give a natural flush. If you want to build it up to colour in pan, that is possible by layering it.

Lasting Power:  This was a bit weird for me because I had read such fab stories of amazing lasting power. However, on my oily skin (over foundation), it lasted about 5-5.5 hours and then pretty much disappeared. Honestly, I was a tad bit disappointed!

Visibility on skin tone:  The colour shows up easily, one swipe of the brush gives a nice sheer colouring. If you want more, swirl the brush in the pan and then apply. Since the pigmentation is good, it shows up easily on my skin and would do so for even deeper skin tones. I feel the blue undertones may get pronounced on deeper skin tones.

Pros of Clinique Cheek Pop Blush – Plum Pop:

  • Finely milled, smooth, easily blendable.
  • Great pigmentation.
  • Goes fabulously well with my cool toned pinks and violets.
  • The color works well for day and night both.
  • The product has a nice satin finish – does not accentuate the pores.
  • Did not break me out.
  • Unscented.

Cons of Clinique Cheek Pop Blush – Plum Pop:

  • Availability in India.
  • Lasting power left me a bit disappointed – especially considering all the hype around it.
  • No mirror or applicator – even to help with touch ups.

IMBB Rating:

4/5

Overall Thoughts:

I was looking for a cool toned pink – this fits in perfectly with my scheme of things. I just wish it had better lasting power. Maybe if I layer a bit of powder on it, I may be able to achieve that.  Clinique makeup has mostly been a miss for me – except for their Chubby Stick Intense range which I LOVE! But, this seems to be changing that for me.  It’s still not a 5/5 for me because after reading rave reviews on it, I expected it to blow me away. It’s pretty, but no, it didn’t quite blow me away.

Do I Recommend Clinique Cheek Pop Blush – Plum Pop?

Absolutely! Apart from the fact, that they are so gorgeous to look at – they perform also fairly well.

  1. Hi Kulpreet… Lovely review. I was hoping to see a swatch.
I knowwww abt the staying power i too have read fab stories and that was the sole reason i wanted to get this! But after reading your review i’ll have to think twice coz mine is also oily skin and i dont even wear foundation (to extend the wear time)
I always look out for your reviews, do plz do write more frequently for your readers!

    1. Thanks Jyoti! Your words made my day! I think the swatch pic was missing in the upload in the morning.I suggest you try it in the shop and keep it on to see how long it lasts for you on your skin.

I ‘m dealing with summer vacations Jyoti – so both kids are at home with me – leaving me no “ME” time for writing reviews. I will be more regular after next week when kids resume school!

  2. aww i was about to ask for the swatch 🙂 because it wasn’t there in the morning…the shade is lovely but tricky for me, i am an amateur still…but love the packaging and the flower pattern….adorable

    1. You have the swatch pic now. I think think you should look at Peach pop or Ginger pop from these – which are more easily wearable shades. They do look gorgeous in the pan!!

    1. Thankyou for such sweet words Mini! Im glad you are trying new things. A blush really puts everything together..

  3. KK you do some of the most detailed reviews. Its an absolute delight to read what you write. And these blushes look so gorgeous. I am probably going for ginger pop.
