Clinique Continuous Coverage Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Review

Hi gals!

How are you doing today? I am excited for the weekend as we have plans to visit my cousin, and I will get good time to explore her makeup stash. I don’t know why I always keep thinking about makeup stashes! 😛 Anyway let me talk about my new purchase from Clinique, which seems pretty decent for people who are lucky enough to get their shade. It is mainly designed for sensitive, normal-dry skin, but I see the texture is working pretty fine on my skin considering it’s still winters. So let’s read more about Clinique Continuous Coverage Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in the shade Creamy Glow.

My Experience with Clinique Continuous Coverage Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15:

The thick and creamy makeup comes in a plastic tube packaging with a twist over cap. It does not have any significant smell and I am fine with its ordinary but travel-friendly packaging. This product is available in 4 shades namely: Porcelain Glow (medium skin tone), Natural Honey Glow (medium skin tone), Ivory Glow (moderately fair skin tone) and Creamy Glow (Very fair skin tone) respectively.

I picked up the shade Creamy Glow which seems like a really fair shade with pink-neutral undertones on my skin tone; though it still works for me as my skin tone varies from fair/pale to very fair during winters. But this shade is definitely not meant for most of the fair Indian skin tones. I say so because I also shared it with my sister-in-law who is NW30 and she was not impressed as it looked slightly white on her skin tone. Moreover I see that Clinique has not provided any color selection for deep/tanned skin tones, hence it’s really tricky to get an exact match in just 3 shades.

Talking about the formula & texture of this makeup, it is way creamy and thicker than my previous foundations. It definitely seems tricky when it comes to blending on my uneven skin texture with brush and with finger tips too because it clings on to even mildly dry patches and dried acne. I tried using it with every high rated makeup brush like Urban Decay Good Karma Brush as well as Tarte Foundation Brush, but it didn’t work for my skin texture.

I then tried blending it with my finger tips and it again gave me an uneven cast, but I was not willing to give up because my makeup artist friend recommended it to me and she knows what works for my weird skin type. Finally, after 2-3 trials, I tried my luck with a damp ordinary sponge wedge and it blended like a dream on my skin with nearly full coverage. Hence lesson learnt – this thick, creamy foundation is not meant for brushes. Now I am using it with my Beauty Blender for perfect, seamless finish; my Clinique Acne Solutions Powder Foundation’s sponge is equally great for the application of this makeup.

I would suggest using it sparsely at first there by building up coverage considering the thick formula. I am putting in efforts in this makeup because it has never broken my skin out. Believe me, whether I use any luxury brand or a low end brand, my skin behaves irrationally to every makeup. Hence if this makeup has not given a single bump, I cannot let it go so easily. I have been using it every single day and meanwhile I have not experienced any new bump or breakout on my skin, which feels like a miracle to me.

packaging

I am blessed with problematic skin which includes slightly uneven skin texture due to blemishes and large open pores. Hence any makeup base can make things worse if I don’t use a primer and concealer. But I felt that this makeup looks much better when worn on bare skin with a damp sponge, hence no need to use a primer. Obviously I need to scrub and moisturize my skin well prior wearing this makeup, but it blends seamlessly giving a matte finish; it also covers my acne marks and large pores really well.

I am glad it keeps shine at bay for decent 4-5 hours. My T-zone gets oily after 5 hours, but this product does not melt for good 6-8 hours; I can anyway do powder touch-ups. I know it sounds tricky for oily skin type, but it will definitely help dry normal, combination skin as we can easily take care of subtle shine through setting powder. It spreads easily even when mixed with a lotion or a moisturizer, but then the coverage varies from sheer to medium.

And if you are also concerned about the consequences of using face makeup like those nasty cystic bumps, acne or breakouts, then take a sigh of relief as this makeup is a savior for us. Honestly I prefer minimal makeup fearing the after-effects of foundation on my skin, hence this makeup is like a dream come true for me. It might seem tricky at first, but once you get hang of it, you will be impressed to see that it does not accentuate or highlight fine lines, dryness or other such issues.

But yeah, it is not suitable for dry-parched skin considering it is not a forgiving formula. Perhaps it will work better as a spot concealer as it perfectly conceals acne marks and black birthmarks to a good extent.
