Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover Review

I got a small bottle of Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover as a gift in a Clinique gwp scheme. A full size bottle of 4.2fl oz retails for $18 in the US. I never owned a makeup remover before since I didn’t use any waterproof cosmetics and I thought a normal face wash was usually enough to remove everything. But after using this I found out why it is regarded as one of the top makeup removers available.
Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover

As stated by the website:
Totally tugless, two-way makeup remover speeds the departure of hard-to-remove eye and lip makeups. Dissolves and “lifts away” long-wearing makeup, even waterproof mascara. Non-irritating, non-stinging. Ophthalmologist Tested. Appropriate for contact lens wearers.
For all skin types.

How to use:

• Shake well before using.
• Saturate cotton ball with remover.
• Cleanse one eye area at a time.
• Apply to eye area and hold for several seconds, then wipe with downward strokes.
• Repeat using fresh cotton ball if necessary.
• Use a new saturated cotton ball or tissue for lipstick removal.
• Rinse with cool water.

The bottle I got was only 1fl oz (30 ml) but is enough to last a decent amount of time.
The cap on the bottle is spill proof design and therefore requires to be pressed down and then opened. So will definitely not spill accidentally anywhere.

I did a little test to show the effectiveness of the remover. I swatched a couple of my lipsticks(L’Oreal, Nyx, Mac, Covergirl, Clinique, Estee Lauder Double wear etc), a waterproof eyeliner and eyeshadow.

I took a little bit of remover on a cotton ball and swiped it just twice across my arm. Everything was completely removed without a trace. Since its oil based all that was left was oil residue from the remover. It performed really well.

To sum it up-

Pros of Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover

-Works really well on all kinds of cosmetics.
-Safe for all kinds of skin.
-No fragrance.
-A little goes very far.
-Secure spill proof packaging.

Cons of Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover

-Slightly expensive(but will last pretty long).
-The bottle cap might take some effort at times to open quickly.
-Since its oil based, might not suit oily skin.
-Requires cotton ball so not convenient compared to wipe off tissue removers.

Conclusion

I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Its a great product and will remove any kind of makeup. After using a remover I realize that the face wash I used to use were not actually removing 100% of the makeup. The only downside would be for people with oily skin, it might affect their skin since the oil stays on until you fash your face. But otherwise it a no brainer purchase. After this bottle gets over however I might try their cleaning balm which totally eliminates the use of harsh cotton balls.

  1. I use this and I love it.     ..the only thing is that sumtimes I forget to shake the bottle 😛

  2. even i used to simply wash my face off to remove makeup…. when i feel the need to use a remover, I use olive/baby/almond oil…. it does the job, but there is a bit of rubbing needed.. looks like this one does not need any rubbing! 🙂

  3. looks like a good makeup remover..i used to just wash my face to remove makeup but now i started using makeup remover..it relly makes such a big difference

  4. i realy like the bottle!! 😛
although im using loreal demaq remover and love it im quite bored now… maybe whn it finishes ill go for this one…

olive oil and stuff makes for a brilliant alternative but me already being an oily skinned person, hate the oily film it leaves even after washing it with facewash.. whereas for removers i just splash water and im done… no need to vigourously rub and wash the face even after the makeup removal ! 🙂

  5. nice review nikki!
lancome’s bi-facil eye makeup remover is awesome too! :yahoo: :yahoo:
next time, i think im gonna pick dis 1 one up…….ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE PACKAGING! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

      1. I use so many things…like for eyes I use Biotique Almond oil, then I use Almay cleansing pads to clean eyes, then I take Himalaya cleansing cream and apply it all over my face. Then I take a bit of cotton and wet it with Neutrogena cleansing water and wipe off the face avoiding eyes!! :wilt: :wilt: :wilt: :wilt: :wilt:

          1. Yeah..I feel that all makeup should leave my skin and my skin should breathe more all the time I am at home!! 😀 😀 😀 Actually I bought that cleansing water accidentally..It is alcohol based… I bought it coz I didn’t know German well and took it thinking it to be a facewash!! 😛 ..Anyways..It looks a lot like an astringent, with lots of alcohol in it and works same as a normal cleanser. It is quite strong..so I usually dilute it with normal water, before cleansing my face.

  6. It looks like a great product, Nikki. Will give it a try sometime. I am really stuck with my makeup remover these days. i am on third bottle of it. I guess that is expensive because I am purchasing one bottle for Rs 125 every month. I think this is around Rs 1000 here but sine you say that this bottle lasts you quite a long time I think it would be worth an investment.

      1. I am using Himalaya for face and Maybelline for eyes. Himalaya is nice and gentle but I feel it doesnt completely remove my makeup.

        Which one do you use?

        1. i toh use loreal de maq… the one i had reviewd …. and stuck on it since years… but now m just bored of using the same thing agn and agn so exploring options 😉 😉

            1. even I am bored of the products I am using.. :wilt: ..Now onwards I’ll stick to buying travel size packs only… :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: No huge bottles of anything :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
