Clinique Different Lipstick – Guava Stain

Clinique – Different Lipstick – Guava Stain

I picked a Loreal Lipstick ages ago – it had the name “Guava” something – and I used to love the colour. So, when I read Guava on a lippy, I cant resist – the Nivea lipbalm I use is Guava shade and you have read my review on Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Colour Guava. So when I came across this lipstick from Clinique, named Guava stain – I again couldn’t resist.

As per my local Clinique counter, this range has not yet been launched in India.

The Product Details (from the website):

Different because of its smooth, comfortable feel. Moderate coverage in a remarkable range of shades, from cream to pearl. Every one packed with rich emollients.

What it is – A sheer, glossy lipstick with a uniquely smooth feel.

What it does – This lipstick feels silky smooth while giving lips a soft, colorful shine. Its emollient-rich formula is available in a wide range of shades.

Benefits – Wearable Colours

Coverage- Moderate

Price:

$15 in US / This line Is Not available in India yet.

Packaging:

The lipstick comes in standard Clinique packaging with a silver metallic ribbed case. Unlike other high end brands, the case is not hefty and fairly light instead. The lipstick has a normal twist-up mechanism.

I’m tired of saying this again and again but the same issue as with most lipstick brands – no colour indicator except the name written at the base of the lipstick.

My experience with Clinique Different Lipstick – Guava Stain

I bought the colour because its name reminded me of my favosite Loreal lippy. Coincidentally, the feel of the lippy was also similar to the Loreal Nutrishine lippy.

Color: The colour in the tube looks taupe with a tinge of pink. However, on lips, the colour transforms to more pink than taupe. The colour has to be built but is a beautiful soft pink making the lips look baby soft. The colour does not cover lip pigmentation fully – instead gives a translucent coverage and has a nice glossy finish. There is no shimmer or frost in this.

It would work great with dramatic eyes or pronounced cheek colour.

Texture: The texture is glossy and it glides ever so smoothly with no tug or pull. It glides easily but doesn’t have a creamy look which would gather in lip lines (like a YSL Volupte lippy tends to do).

It feels extremely hydrating once on – the hydration stays for 1-2 hours post the colour disappearing.

Pigmentation: A single swipe deposits about 40% color and needs to be built with a couple more swipes. In all fairness – it is supposed to be a sheer lipstick from the Company.

Lasting power:The lipstick sticks around for 3-3.5 hours max –which is not very long. However, not surprising for a glossy lip colour. (The only exception I have seen to this rule is YSL Volupte Shines).

Clinique - Different Lipstick - Guava Stain

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Clinique Different Lipstick – Guava Stain

1. A beautiful baby pinkshade – with glossy finish.
2. Sheer pigmentation – Need atleast 2-3 swipes to build up the colour sufficiently.I do not put this in cons because the lipstick is MEANT TO BE a sheer one and would be great for someone who likes such lip colours. (I cannot buy mangoes and then complain that “Damn! They taste like mangoes”!!)
3. Easy to apply from the tube
4. Lipstick applies easily – no tug or pull!
5. Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips
6. There was no feathering or bleeding
7. High on hydration
8. Decent uniquepackaging
9. Fragrance free

Cons of Clinique Different Lipstick – Guava Stain

1. Clinique products are not easily available in India – except select ShopperStop counters or Clinique outlets (again associated with Shopperstop).
2. Not long lasting. Pls note that the Company does ot claim to be long- lasting.

IMBB Rating:

Yes, a 4.5/5 product.

The product is meant for people who like sheer to medium coverage hydrating glossy lipsticks. It’s a perfect product for that except for the lasting power. However, as mentioned by me earlier, all (except 1) lipsticks falling in this category provide low staying power. The colour is beautiful, would look even better on someone who doesn’t have pigmented lips!

So what do you feel about the colour – like it or leave it?

    1. It does, doesnt it? I mentioned that in the review also. When I picked it, I thought it would work as a N*de taupe shade even though the name was Guava stain. Was surprised to get a Guava stain colour actually! *hihi* *hihi*
