Clinique Exfoliating Scrub Review

Clinique Exfoliating Scrub Review

Clinique+Exfoliating+Scrub+Review

Here’s a product from Clinique I couldn’t wait to try and review – Exfoliating Scrub.  You know how much I love scrubs and I could not miss picking a scrub from Clinique when I have an option to.  All beauty gurus recommend exfoliating skin two to three times every week for radiant skin.  Some of us may not give that much importance to exfoliation, but regular exfoliation is one of the important factors for healthy skin.  I do not like mild exfoliators or scrubs, I like them to be a bit harsh and coarse, but mine being oily skin, harsh exfoliation leads to exacerbation of the activity of oil glands (yeah I know, cruel!), so I am always trying to find not too harsh but not yet mild exfoliating product.

Product Description:

Skin-clearing, water-based scrub for strong, oily skins. De-flakes, refines, softens tiny lines. Leaves skin refreshed.

My Take on Clinique Exfoliating Scrub:

This exfoliating scrub comes in a 100 ml tube.  Like all Clinique products, this one too is 100% allergy tested and fragrance free.  The scrub comes in a thick white base, in a paste form. The exfoliating particles are gritty, grainy, not coarse, but when you rub them between your fingers, you can feel the grittiness.  This is a water-based scrub, so oily skin rejoice.  Since the texture is a bit thick, I moisten my face with water and then dot the scrub on.  After working it out in circular motions for 3 minutes, I rinsed off with water.  This scrub works nicely in clearing off dead skin cells leading to smooth and radiant skin.

It clears whiteheads, but blackheads I don’t know because I don’t have any.  I can feel smooth skin after using this scrub.  If you have any dry patches, this would exfoliate it out.  True to the claims, I have noticed that it lets products absorb better.  If you use it before applying a good face pack, you can see better results.  The one and only thing that bothers me is the strong menthol presence.  I am not a fan of menthol in skin care products, pisses me off.  I do not like the feel of menthol 🙁  Other than that, I am very happy with this exfoliator.  Its a nice balance between mild and harsh exfoliator; however, those who like very mild scrubs would not like this one.

Another thing to note is that you need to compulsorily follow it up a toner or clarifying lotion, otherwise, it leaves the pores open and those with oily skin would get dirt and oil accumulated leading to breakouts.  Clinique recommends to follow this exfoliation process up with their 3-step system; however, any good toner or ice cubes are enough to close the pores.

Another factor is the steep price, Rs. 1850 for an exfoliating scrub is a bit high, but this 100 ml tube would last for a pretty long time since only a little is required each time.

Salicylic acid is one of the ingredients, so best for oily and acne-prone skin.

Going by the texture, those with extremely sensitive skin would find the grittiness in the texture to be a bit harsh.

Summing up the pros and cons of this exfoliating scrub:

Pros of Clinique Exfoliating Scrub:

  • A nice balance between mild and harsh exfoliation.
  • Gritty scrub particles in a thick base.
  • Clears off dead and flaky skin.
  • Gives smooth and soft skin.
  • Aqua-based scrub.
  • Contains salicylic acid.
  • Clears whiteheads.
  • 100% allergy tested and fragrance free.
  • Exfoliation with this scrub leads to better absorption of products.
  • Good quantity, 100 ml tube would last long.

Cons of Clinique Exfoliating Scrub:

  • Need to follow up with a good toner, otherwise dirt and grime accumulates quickly into the open pores leading to breakouts.
  • Contains menthol (I don’t like menthol).
  • Those with extremely sensitive skin, might find it a bit harsh.
  • Price is a bit high for an exfoliator.

        1. No Clinique product phor u, waise, ek Chanel lipstick mooze de do, main Clinique 3-step samples doongi 😛 Mere paash bahoot hai 🙂

  1. Whenever I see clinique products on imbb without seeing name I know that must be you only Jomol. I didn’t had good experience with clinique 3 step products plus I took the large ones which got wasted at last. It didn’t helped me with acne. But there sun block with foundation is awesome product. U should give that I try.

    1. Thankiesss Ruchika, I so love Clinique products because I usually have acne with most of the other stuff. I have used the Clinique Superbalanced foundation and its so good. Oh, the 3-step system na, I have found that clarifying lotions contain alcohol and don’t suit me too, but I haven’t tried the 4th one yet 🙂 You didn’t like DDMG?

    2. I had white heads because of dat Ddmg cream. It made my skin soft but didn’t helped me with acne. And I’m using city block sheer spf 25 not foundation. Its very light n doesn’t break out. So try this next time. Thanks a ton

  2. I second Ruchika! My sister was browsing through and I saw this pic, I immediately said It’s Jomol… Give the lappy to me!! 😀
I Like scrubbing too, have a long list that i need to try from Clinique!

  3. i love ur pics jomol di 🙂 u know after reading this post i realized i have not been regular in scrubbing at all this year. need to start again 😛 the scrub looks really nice. i will try products from clinique when i start earning 😛

  4. Nice Review. These days whenever its Clinique, the first thought that comes to mind is Jomol. Sounds good but I too don’t like menthol. 🙁

  5. I’d love to try this too! But yeah, expensive plus you need to follow up with other Clinique products. Gotta save for this. 🙂

    1. Yeah Val, you need to follow it up with toner, especially oily skin, I have had breakouts when I didn’t do the toner routine.

  6. I am thinking of investing in some good water based cleanser as recently some derma told me that my skin is changing from oily to combination. hence using water based cleanser will keep my skin moisture level in control. have you used anything like that from clinique Jomol.
She said only hight end brands have such products…

  7. thanks for the review on this one Jomol. i am also a big fan of Clinique. I bought the 3 step too and I liked the cleanser and Toner but the moisturizing lotion didnt work well for me. gave me a pimple or two. You had mentioned the gel was good so maybe the next time i will try that. Coming to this product, the scrub looks like a pretty good one but defiinitely a little steep price wise. I love the superbalanced foundation too.

  8. its texture reminds me of oriflame’s green colored tube scrub..even that had strong menthol scent….for my next scrub m confused btwn fe n clinique :/ but clinique’s toner is the best toner i have used till date 🙂
