All of us who have oily skin know how difficult it is to find a good moisturizer for our skin type.  Most of the moisturizers make the face greasy, so most of us choose to give them a miss.  Usually, I feel the need to use a moisturizer when I am wearing foundation.  I have hit jackpot with Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel, its too awesome.  Today, I will be reviewing Clinique Superdefense Moisturizer with anti-ageing benefits and with SPF 25.  Dramatically Different doesn’t provide UVA/UVB protection nor does it have SPF.  So, I thought I should look for another moisturizer to be worn when I go outside during daytime because I get sunburn patches on my face easily 🙁 Here’s a little info about the product.

Clinique Superdefense 2

Product Description:

Clinique’s most complete defense against the visible signs of ageing in a daily moisturizer.  Enhanced SPF protection is just the beginning.  Four dimension protection against the effects of sun, pollution, stress, and time.  At last, your daily moisturizer delivers umbrella protection to help skin fight the elements that conspire to age skin.  Start at the first signs of ageing and you can virtually help deactivate skin’s visible responses – lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone.  Even enhance the barrier function that keeps skin firm and supple.  Allergy tested.  100% fragrance free.

My Take on Clinique Superdefense SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer:

I absolutely love Dramatically Different Gel because it is so super light, gets absorbed into the skin quickly, does not leave any greasy residue behind, and keeps the skin hydrated throughout. I feel my skin is thoroughly moisturized with DDG.  It is completely oil free and can be worn under foundation because it won’t melt away the foundation.  Well, the only drawback is the lack of sun protection.

Clinique Superdefense 4

If I wear it during the day, I would have to slather on other products to provide SPF.  That’s the reason I picked up Clinique Superdefense Moisturizer with SPF 25 specially formulated for combination and oily skin types.  At the store, I checked out the other variant available, which was for dry skin. The texture of that particular cream was a bit thick from the oily skin variant.

Clinique Superdefense 3

Superdefense Moisturizer comes in a solid green-colored tub, its a 30 ml pack (50 ml pack is also available).  Its an attractive packaging with steel-finish cap and also there’s a lid provided to prevent spillage of the cream.

Clinique Superdefense 7

Superdefense is 100% allergy tested and so there’s no stinging.  Though its fragrance free, you can sniff out a bit of some medicinal scent.

Clinique Superdefense 5

The texture is of a medium consistency cream that’s not runny at all.  Only a bit is required for the entire face, less than a pea size actually.  When I apply this, it immediately dims down my skin tone.  Though it moisturizes my skin nicely, it does feel a bit heavy.  During day time, it causes my face to sweat.  My foundation does not stay long if I wear this under the foundation.

Clinique Superdefense 8

Clinique Superdefense 9

Superdefense adequately provides protection from sun and I have not had any sunburn when I have worn it.  I feel completely protected when I wear it and go outside.  It does smooth out fine lines with use over time, but I do think its main purpose is to provide protection from ageing factors like stress, pollution, sun and to increase the skin’s resistance, the main factor being protection from UVA and UVB rays.

Clinique Superdefense 6

Though this has SPF, Clinique has mentioned that this moisturizer can be worn during the night, but I haven’t done so.

As mentioned earlier, at the store, I was shown two variants, Superdefense for dry skin and then this one for oily skin.  The texture of the dry skin one is much more heavier and this one seemed lighter.  I think those with combination skin will like this moisturizer more than people with very oily skin who grease easily with heavy products.

Clinique Superdefense 10

During the summers, I am going to wear this moisturizer when I am going out because of the effective sun protection, but at the same time, I would have to add on matte effect products to prevent it from greasing up.  I think it would be a good moisturizer during winters.  More than oily skin, people with combination skin would like it.  I would totally skip this during evenings because of the way it oils up my face.  None of the Clinique products have given me acne and I have to say ditto for this one too.

Those who like matte effect, should stay away from this moisturizer, instead invest in Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel.

As for me, I would really like it if they made the texture of this moisturizer like DDMG’s.

Pros of Clinique Superdefense SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer:

  • Provides effective UVA and UVB protection, I have never had any sunburn when I have worn this.
  • Hydrates and moisturizes skin.
  • SPF 25 protection.
  • Increases skin’s resistance.
  • Provides anti-ageing benefits.
  • Smooths out fine lines.
  • Did not cause break outs on my skin.
  • Suitable for winters.
  • 100% Allergy tested.
  • Does not contain any artificial fragrance.
  • Ingredient list looks good.

Cons of Clinique Superdefense SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer:

  • Even though this variant of Superdefense moisturizer is for oily skin, it greases and oils up on my skin.
  • Cannot be worn under heavy foundation, will melt it away.
  • Dims down the complexion.
  • Cannot be used as a summer time moisturizer because of its thick texture, though its an effective anti-ageing formula with good sun protection (a dilemmatic situation for me).
  • Good for combination skin, the texture is not that suitable for oily or very oily skin.

Will I Repurchase Clinique Superdefense SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer?

Clinique, please make this one’s texture similar to Dramatically Different Gel’s.

Do I Recommend Clinique Superdefense SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer?

Hmmm, if you like dewy look, you might try it, but if you are a matte look fan like me, don’t get this one, instead try DDMG.
