Clinique Superprimer Universal Face Primer Review

Clinique Superprimer Universal Face Primer Review

As you all already know, Clinique had come out with the “superprimer” range last year with 6 different primers covering six different skin concerns – Universal Face Primer for smoothing out the skin before makeup, to colour correct dullness, to colour correct redness, to colour correct sallowness, to colour correct discolouration, and colour correct dullness in deeper skin tones. Since, I had a good experience with the Colour Corrects Discolourations superprimer, I wanted to get more from the range, but it was always out of stock. This month however I could lay my hands on the Universal Face Primer and here’s the review for it. Please read on :))

My Take on Clinique Superprimer Universal Face Primer:

For us – with oily skin, keeping the face/makeup looking fresh is a real task! Primers are a must-have for us.  I had been super impressed with the color corrects discolorations superprimer because it helped me in keeping my face matte and bright.  This one – “Universal Primer” has a white, translucent, oil-free texture that does not feel a bit sticky.  The moment you apply it on the face, it disappears into the skin.  It’s lightweight, there’s no stickiness, film, layer left behind.  Actually, it does not even feel “silicone-y” or “waxy” on top of the skin.  With most of the primers, you can feel them up on your skin, but not this one.  I feel it has a different formulation from the other primers that are popular in the market.  Since it’s water based, it’s suitable for all skin types.

Most primers including the earlier superprimer that I have reviewed form a very satin and waxy kind of layer. This one doesn’t go that smooth and in that way, doesn’t match up to other primers.  It however gives the skin a matte and smooth texture.  I am happy to wear it on its own without any foundation.  You know with primers, you need to thoroughly moisturize your skin before application otherwise you can see dry areas, but with this primer, you can skip moisturization in summers.  It works more like a day cream.  Also, it has quite a lot of antioxidants, so it’s good for skin too.

There’s no fragrance at all – I cannot detect anything.  Since, it’s allergy tested and completely oil free, you can be rest assured that it will neither trigger nor aggravate your existing acne.

Since it doesn’t form a very silicone-y smooth layer, foundation doesn’t glide that well on it.  Sadly, it does not do much to increase the longevity of makeup, fails on that front.  Though it gives a smooth base, I see that my makeup melts within 3 hours in the summer months, but it might be different during winters, let’s see.  However, the product is not completely disappointing because it scores well as a moisturizing product with a good dose of antioxidants.

Coming to the best feature, as mentioned earlier, you can wear it alone and get a matte face for more than 3 hours (without heavy makeup on top).  During summers, it’s really hard to pile on foundation/compact, but with this, you can skip that routine.  Visibly, haven’t seen much effect on pore reduction either.

Clinique Superprimer Universal Face Primer

Overall, I am happy with this product, it helps my skin in more than one ways even though it fails as a primer. Whenever I go out, I just wear this over moisturizer and do not really bother about the rest of makeup, it does work for me.
