Coastal Scents Revealed Eyeshadow Palette Review

Hi guys!

I just bought the Coastal Scents Revealed 1 and 2 eyeshadow palettes.  “Revealed 1” is supposed to be a dupe for Urban Decay Naked 1 and 2 and the Revealed 2 is supposed to be a dupe for Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. Is it really a dupe? Let’s find out.

Packaging:  The packaging of the palette is very minimalistic and simple, both of which I like. It is very sleek and compact. It comes with a bubble wrap cover. If you keep that around, you can use it anytime you need to travel and that will make sure your shadows don’t shatter in transit. It doesn’t have a mirror, which I have no problems with.

Shades: This is a very typical neutral palette with pops of yellow, blue and gold. There is a good mix of matte and shimmer, with shimmery shades outnumbering the mattes. There are 20 shades in total, of which only 5 are matte. I personally really like the layout of long pans of eyeshadow, it is easy to use your brush along its length.

Consistency: The consistency of these shadows is very very powdery to the touch. They don’t have creaminess at all. I recommend using the shimmery shades wet to avoid a rain of eyeshadow on your under-eye area and cheeks. If you do use it dry, tap off before you apply, or you will lose product.  If applied dry, there is not enough intensity at all. If applied wet, the intensity is slightly better, but even when applied wet, it is not as close to my Lorac shadows applied dry.

When I say wet, I don’t mean wet your brush with water, because that just seems to fade in an hour or two. I mean using a watery medium like MAC Fix+ or even eye drops or lens solution; those seem to work better. I feel it swatches better than it applies on the eyes. The shimmery shades (dry) apply halfway between a satin finish and a shimmery finish.

Texture/Blend-ability: It feels powdery to the touch and a brush dipped into the shadow will have a lot of product kick up. Some of the shades are very chalky and difficult to work with. Some of the shades are a little better to work with, so that way, the quality is very inconsistent; it is very hit and miss. I would say the mattes are a little easier to build up compared to the shimmery shades. I feel it is difficult to blend and spread out compared to other shadows I have. I feel the mattes are far better in terms of blend-ability too.

Pigmentation: I would say this has just about medium pigmentation. I know it swatches wonderfully, but I am rating pigmentation according to how it performs on the eye. It is important to note here that this palette has a lot of similar shades from Urban Decay Naked 1 and 2. So, it is supposedly a dupe of both those palettes. A simple Google search will reveal which ones. I am unable to tell you these because I don’t own any of the Naked palettes. *All of my thoughts above are written using an eyeshadow primer with the shadows*

Pros of Coastal Scents Revealed Eyeshadow Palette:

  • Inexpensive Dupe of UD Naked 1 and 2.
  • Sleek and compact – easy to travel with.
  • Lovely mix of matte and shimmer shadows.
  • Blends well.
  • Beautiful variety of shimmers.
  • Can get a variety of looks with the palette.

Cons of Coastal Scents Revealed Eyeshadow Palette:

  • Quality of the shadows are very hit and miss.
  • Shimmery shadows have low to medium pigmentation.
  • Have to use shimmery shadows wet – with eye drops or Mac Fix+ (if used with water, the ‘shimmer starts to fade after the water evaporates).
  • Shadows produce a lot of fallout.
  • Swatches are misleading – they swatch and perform very differently.
  • Even with primer, shimmery shades need to be used wet.

IMBB Rating:

Would I Repurchase Coastal Scents Revealed Eyeshadow Palette?
I honestly regret wasting my money on this palette. I would rather pay more and have better quality shadows.

Would I Recommend Coastal Scents Revealed Eyeshadow Palette?
If you are a beginner to makeup and just wanna dip your toes in the water, trying to understand how you can work colours together, this is a good place to start. If you are intermediate to even advanced in terms of makeup, I suggest giving this one a skip.

  1. Aww this one isn’t as great as I was expecting. Many shades are so similar and way too shimmery. I can get such shades in MUR palettes easily.
